Naming subtools & master question

Is there a way to do a groupsplit that keeps how each subtool named like it should be named from the original app? (Instead of just the generic auto adding of a number suffix).

Also, why is it that the subtool master can’t merge subtools into their original vertex (polygon) group order?

You can’t use Group Split and preserve original names - they don’t exist in ZBrush as groups don’t have names. You would have to import the separate objects from your other app. (You can use SubTool Master Multi Append to ease this process.)

You can preserve existing polygroups in SubTool Master, just check the ‘preserve existing Polgroups’ box in the Merge options.

Thanks Marcus.

Now I have a new subtool issue. I have a poser figure separated out into individual obj files, but when I multi append, all get brought into the tool palette but the fingers don’t show up on the canvas. I have to re multi append the fingers. How do I fix this?

If the fingers show as a subtool in the subtool list then it may be because their normals are flipped. Switch on Tool>Display Properties>Double.

If they are not been brought in to ZBrush then simply load them separately and append. This may be a file naming issue or some other problem but without seeing the file I couldn’t say.

Neither the flipping nor double thing didn’t work (or so it seems). Any other tricks up your sleeve?

If the fingers subtool is listed in the subtool list then it is presumably not showing because it is hidden behind other subtools or way out of the picture. Select the fingers subtool and switch off the eye icon for all the other subtools. This means that just the fingers will be visible. Press F on the keyboard to center them. That should at least show that they are part of your model.
