It’s cool to see how you build forms. It looks so easy for you
I love it your work! Great anatomy!
Great work Nagulov, your anatomy and gestures are spot on!
Really awesome anatomy studies man! Keep up the great work! =)
So I found an older sculpt with an intact undo history. It’s based on a sketch by Benoit Godde. On the one hand, I feel like I’ve gotten bolder with my sculpting style, on the other it’s still recognizably me, even though it’s 2 years old.

The V-Rex you made was very good and I was thinking of buying it! You have absolutely fantastic sculpting skills, but one thing to mention, the legs on the V-Rex should be bigger, but otherwise, great!
I love your style and clay like approach to your surface details. I was really inspired by your creatures and anatomy studies. I look forward to seeing more work from you.
amazing stuff man…gonna learn a lot about anatomy and sculpting from you
Tried my hand at figure sculpting after a long hiatus, mostly from memory, to test my anatomy knowledge. Not bad, considering how long it’s been, but definitely lots of room for improvement. I’ve recorded a timelapse in case it helps anyone.
Also, sculpting a face without symmetry is what separates the men from the boys – not doing that again any time soon!

ahh, how could I miss this one?? man your works are killing me.they’re just sooo awesome.just went through your entire gallery again & well…uhh… jaw dropped…again. can’t wait to see more from you.keep rocking.;)
Congrats @nagulov
Your wips are amazing and all your sincere words helps a lot! Im also almost 36 but I will keep practicing. Since you started this thread in 2013 I am curious, how did it go? Are you working as a digital sculptor already? Your anatomy sculpting it is really pro. I am learning a lot from your attitude and the way you deal with frustration and keep improving.
I am even learning english from you lol
Please keep updating
I just went through your whole gallery and your work is amazing. You have great anatomy sculpts, very dynamic and poses that look alive. I’m shocked at how much you say you’re a beginner and you’re so good. If you’re a beginner then I don’t know what I am.
I’m just starting on sculpting and also studying anatomy, and I think I’m really far from where you’re at now.
Great work, it is inspiring.
EDIT: I, uh, thought the thumbnail I carefully cropped the nudity out of would be shown in the main feed. I don’t know how to change it, I’m sorry! I really wanted to avoid the punitive ‘mature’ tag. In my defense I did try to think of the children, but posting images here can be finicky.
Hey wow, thanks guys! Haven’t posted here in a while, mostly since life got in the way. Moving to Canada this month! terrified/excited
@bilfrok
I’m thrilled to hear my ramblings about how tough sculpting is are inspiring someone, even if only slightly! Keep working, it’s the only way to improve, and it’s also the toughest advice to follow. As I know from personal experience. As to your question, I’ve been working in 3d for a while now, although my day job hardly ever includes fun stuff like anatomy. But I try to slip in Zbrush into my workflow as often as I can.
@Juan Carlos Franco
Thanks man! I tend to call myself an ‘advanced beginner’. Even though my sculpts eventually look decent when I post them here, it’s the many hidden hours of frustration and frequent use of ctrl-z that make me feel like I’m still only a beginner. Should I ever get to that stage where I can knock out good-looking primary forms in 20 minutes, like the real pros can, maybe then I’ll call myself ‘intermediate’. Hah.
Anyhow, here’s a new sculpt I made a few days ago, based on a photo by mjranum on DeviantArt. I’ve also included a full timelapse, as usual in the hope that it helps a fellow struggling zbrusher realize all they have to do is not give up. If you persevere, the forms will eventually look good. Also, I hate hair. And elbows.
It looks very good!
I love to watch you sculpting. You doing it with so easy . ANother great study!
Nice anatomy studies.

Really good sculpt.
So I’m reviving this thread with a sorta-new sculpt. I moved to Canada with my wife and son a scant three months ago, so life in the past year or so has been interesting, to say the least!
Anyway, I noticed most sculpts look way more awesome when textured and rendered properly, so I decided to try to up my game and push a piece way beyond my comfort zone. To this end I completely resculpted this guy, retopoed him in Maya, then exported the mid-res model with fibermesh hair, polypaint and normal maps into Keyshot. There I rendered out a few haphazard passes and comped them in Photoshop. Phew! I gotta say, just sculpting and calling it a day is way easier!
Much was learned along the way, especially dealing with unforeseen niggles. Knowing the process in broad strokes and actually doing it are two completely different things. I relied on a great many tutorials and tips by other awesome artists. Among them:
- Frank Tzeng’s gumroad tut on sculpting likeness and his sweet skin alphas
- Jay Hill’s informative yt channel, specifically his eye sculpt tutorial
- Hossein Diba’s Clooney likeness sculpt, especially the way he wrangled fibermesh eyebrows
And quite a few others. It’s honestly amazing how much quality content (and a lot of it for free!) is available these days. Pretty much whatever you want to learn is covered by someone, in video, no matter how granular your needs.

Haha I like it man !
It’s funny I did the exact same and finished a model from modeling to render last week too. Sooooo long process !
Nice picture ^^
