nagging question...

I have a question that’s bugging me – why is it that cntrl/click/drag clears a mask, but cntrl/shift/click/drag inverts it’s relevant mask. Likewise cntrl/click inverts, cntrl/shift/click clears.

why isn’t the control the same for both mask types? I’m sure there’s a logical reason, but I’m not quite sharp enough to fathom it.

Actually, Ctrl+Shift is the combo for polygon selection. Ctrl by itself is the shortcut for masking. For both options, the modifier to reverse the behavior is to add the Alt key.

If you’re using Ctrl+Shift for masking, you’re actually triggering selection behavior instead and so are getting the confusing results.

no I understand the differences in the functions - - cntrl to mask, cntrl/shift to select, alt to invert both.

but to clear the mask you hold down the same keys as you do to invoke the command and drag, to clear the selection you hold down the same keys as you do to invoke the command and click.

I just don’t get why you can’t hold down the same keys as you do to invoke the command and use the same pen action to do the same thing in both cases…?

I know what you’re talking about. Bothers me too. Eh, no real biggie though.

no, true. But here must be a reason. Even though nobody’s come up with one yet!!

any other opinions on this…?
