n2km File compatability?

Hello there, long time lurker first time poster so bear with me.

I’ve recently taken a class in my university on graphic design, the teacher taught us how to use Maya and zBrush. The reason I took this class (I’m a law major) is because I want to learn a better way of modifying game files.

I am part of a community of players that modify the PC game NBA 2k11. It’s a basketball simulation game. The files are .iff files which we decompress using our mod tool and are able to export the models out. The exported models are .n2km files which we open in blender to sculpt the headshapes as much as we can. I know other modders who use 3DSMAX but I always just used blender, to get by

Now I want to know if it’s possible to use zBrush to modify the .n2km files. I know zBrush only accepts .obj files so I was wondering how would it work? Is there a third party plugin we can install to make it work? I would love a quick reply, thank you in advance

There isn’t a plugin. You’d need to use a program that supports both OBJ and n2km to convert the files before/after sending them to/from ZBrush.

Okay I was in class today and I was working on the Demo computer with zBrush installed. Now I was able to load up the .n2km file on 3DSMax with a script on the internet. This allowed me to import and export .n2km files. So naturally, I used the GoZ command to use 3DSmax with zBrush and was able to load it up as a tool on zBrush, I did little sculpting and then used the GoZ button again to send it back to 3DSMax.

What this did is create a copy of the original model (but with the modifications) so I basically had two heads. I deleted the original head and placed the modified head where it was. When I tried to export it, it wasn’t on the list of the script, though all other pieces of the n2km file (eyes, mouth, teeth) was there. When I selected nothing what it said was “Select Model to Export”. So my question is, how do you change an imported zBrush model to a 3DSmax model? Do you assign it a number or what? Sorry if it’s an obvious question, like I said before I never used 3DSmax because it is not in our curriculum to learn.
