My zbrush sketchbook

Hey all, my name is Hans, I’ve been having fun with zbrush for about a year or so. This is some of the stuff I’ve done in that time.
I’ve put the anatomical models up for download for free, you can get the links here -

This is the second zbrush sculpt I did, not going to show the first. Copy from a life sculpt done by canadian sculptor.
And another girl using same mesh and fewer polygons.

Going further with the deamonhead, managed to get it retoped in 3dcoat, will have to do it again soon.
I’m trying a sort of terror/fear expression instead of anger.

great job man

Eiad - Thank you!

Now the whole bone-thing is done! Happy!!

This is some pretty good stuff, I really like it when people sculpt hair on their models.

I would up the render quality of the images and make them smaller. It seems you have done a screen dump for most of these images.

Other than that, your taking the right direction :+1:

Thanks Axisis yeah I’ve been lazy witht the quality, but I’ll do better from now on.
Working a bit more on these two.

Done with the base for this ecorche, will move on to normal sculpting now. I’m working from the big german book by Gottfried Bammes. zsketchecorche1.jpg

This is why I love Italy - cool stuff like this door-knocker(if it’s called that) are litterally around the corner! Going home soon, so now I’m running around all over town with my camera taking as many pictures as possible.
Don’t know if I’ll finish it, it’s heavy detailed with curled hair and beard. I’m not really good at finishing things.

Moving on with this one, hope I can finish it.

Done for now. At some point I will do more surface details and probably another retop, and then try and import into 3ds max.

Nice stuff, specially the skeleton and doorknocker.

THanks man! I might do some better renderings of the skeleton.

Started work on this raptor head. Main source the first jurassic park movie. It’s incredible how well made special effects were even back then.

I’m using sculptris together with zbrush for this project.
Sculptris alpha 6 is almost crash free… And it has GoZ

As long as I keep a constant eye on the mesh, sculpting in zbrush even with less than 20.000 tries has been no problem(with clay brushes, modified “Ryan” clay brush, trim dynamic, move, move-topo, smooth, standard).

Sculptris together with zbrush is super super fast for this kind of sculpting. Whenever I see stretching I just GoZ to sculptris and fix it with the reduce/increase triangle brush, as well as reducing entire mesh when I feel lost in details.

At this point 1.6 million polys.
I don’t GoZ anymore, Sculptris can’t handle the presure… So only Zbrush from now on.
But pretty amazing to get so far with so few polys so fast without having to do a retop first. Sculptris is AWESOME!
Still far from done but getting there…
Reptile skin is fun

Started this arm ecorche - working on a very slow system so this is the actual document size I’m using(although zoomed in when sculpting). The cool thing is that I don’t feel any difference when sculpting, I think I’ll even keep the document size low on faster computers from now on. It does look like I’m sculpting on an old Amiga or something but the speed is worth it!
Especially since I plan on using the topology masking feature a lot more.

This is the beginning of a head for a new character project. About 60.000 triangles.
Sculptris and Zbrush.

[oldman1.jpg]

Done with the zsketch for a new character, the idea is an old strong man.
And this will be the head that goes with it. Next step finish the head and project it on to the body.

Hey I really enjoy your ecorche work, I’m attempting some myself but stylized right now. Keep up the great sculpts!

Thanks Berreck! I wanted to do a sculpt on top of an ecorche study, but it got too confusing for me. So now I think I’ll just sculpt from reference a bit.

Here are som WIP, a finished zsketch of a strong ideal bodytype, and the old guy with head projected to the body. I need to find more old guy reference before I can finish.
