The likeness is very well developed. Thanks for showing your process with the reference. The expression really makes it a hit.
Very nice.

Nice magazine cover too. The wrinkles are smooth, you can feel the weight, the face is great, and the dolls. The whole idea of Freddy is great to begin with mixing horror with little kids, and you brought it to life here.

I’m going to go curl up fetus style in my
bathtub and cry like a little girl now.
grrrrr jealous
Gabe! It looks really nice! I heard that you’re working on some fun project now… I can’t wait to see it.
davide: Thanks Man, Yes indeed, when the time comes I will be posting
pictures of it.
Super Glitcher: Thank you.
bLawless: Thanks Man, It was pretty cool to made the cover of
HORRORHOUND.
sizzle: Thank you. I used “Image plane” to line up the main features of the face
and a lot of pictures of Robert Englund with out the prostetics.
Here is the cover of Horrorhound magazine. I want to to thank the whole Painting Departament at Gentle Giant for the amazing paint job that they did on this piece.(Thanks Mireya,Kim,Russ,Chie,Javie,Brian,Mike,Manny,Holly and Kat)

Thanks so much for posting this Gabriel. I was floored when I saw this piece. Looks like it was quite challenging indeed. I absolutely love it!
Awesome!

Very well done,
I run a graphic arts and Media lab and was wondering if you have any advice for Freelance or contract work for my High School students?
Medicinehorse7: My advice is “work hard and show your work everywhere”. I came to this country ten years ago with a bunch of pictures of my sculptures (and a bag full of dreams). I showed them all over the San Diego Comic Con, and one guy out of the whole place gave Me an opportunity. I haven’t stop working ever since.
Hard working and perseverance is all you need. Commit yourself to your profession and it will pay off sooner or later.
Unfortunately I am in not position to hire people, but I will advice to submit your resumes to as many different studios as you can, most of them have a internship program, call for availability.
lemonnado: Thank you.
It’s Alive!: I am glad you liked it, Thank you.
Hey guys,
Finally, I got something to show you. Do you remember Pan’s Labyrinth? Well ,Gentle Giant Studios acquired this exclusive property from the Man himself Guillermo Del Toro. Who after seen my Pan head which I did for my ZBrush class long ago(http://www.zbrushcentral.com/zbc/showthread.php?t=47470), got all excited and decided to grant Us the license to make some cool product!!
Not always you get the chance to look back and revised some of your early creations. Most of the time is not even worth it. Not in this case. I dusted off my old Pan head(officially known as The Faun or Fauno in spanish) and realized how bad was it(for real!) So, I knew I had to do a lot of adjustments.

First I had to add a little bit more of chest and then retopologized the whole bust.

Once I fixed the mesh I sectionated the piece into several different subtools. I found it easier to work this way.
I started adjusting the face to make it look more accurate to the character.
I subdivided the horns into three groups due to the curvy shape, that allowed Me to add all the intense detail on the inside and outside surface.

I did the same on the head to work on the individual features of the face, and at the same time started the hair mass but wasn’t sure how I was gonna tackle this area at this point.

Now is time to break the simmetry and let the real sculpting begin!! I hate the look of simmetrical stuff, it looks unreal. Nothing in real life is perfectly symmetric(unless is man made), I use symmetry to save time at the early stages of the sculpture but I turned it off as soon as I can and go free hand. Then I started to look for the right gesture using the transpose tool.

I started working on the base. From the beginning I had the idea of using the roots of a tree as the base that morph into the bust. So I created a pedestal and using zspheres I sculpted the roots(that was a real mesh!)but at the end it all work out well.

Now I was ready to work on the expression and further details of the chest, trying to give him some character and gettting away from the dull face I had before.

Now ,for the hair I decided to use individual strings of hair and layered the same way you would do it on a latex mask(ooh, those were the days) I thought about it after my friend Brandon Lawless(you might have heard of him, haven’t you?)showed Me a test that he was working on for hair. And surprisingly enough it worked out pretty well. I always struggle doing hair. I find it to be the hardest and most difficult part of sculpting, seriously!
But not for Brandon, he does hair like nobody else can!!!

Beautiful sculpt…
i liked the movie and the character too…
I was lucky enough to count with the help of my new good friends from DDT FX in Barcelona,Spain, David Marti and Montse Ribe, who won an oscar for the designs and creations of The Faun and all of the creatures from the movie. They hooked Me up with lots of behind the scene photo reference of the sculpture and the suit finished. Thank you guys again for all your help, I owe you one!!
So now the bust pretty much looks the way I want it, there are only little details to add like texture and twiks here and there.
Now, I need to take a break , I will be posting more pictures of the final product the way it was sold at San Diego Comic Con 2008.
Later.
Excellent work!! I Love the horns. Such great detailing.
Very nice Gabriel. I enjoyed the movie very much and this work is cool.
Great work. Thanks for the process breakdown! small_orange_diamond

Here is a shot of the final product. There were only 150 pieces made ,signed by Guillermo Del Toro. They retailed for $ 60.00 ,they were sold out by saturday.
keep them coming…
i just love those images…
and right next to the oscar…
must be mighty pleasing to you …!!!
Great job, like I’ve already told you, hah. Its nice to see it here on the forum! And wow, that reel by DDT is so gross, realistic, and disturbing - I loved it.
WTG,
Brandon
