My WIP "Ant Creature" from DT ZSphere Modeling Video

I just purchased and downloaded the downloadable version of the ZSphere Modeling in ZBrush video tutorial from digital-tutors.

I’m a complete beginner, and this thread will serve as both a WIP and a review of the training video. I’m not in any way affiliated with DT but I figured an unbiased review from a beginner might help others one way or another who are looking for a zsphere modeling video tutorial.

I plan to update this thread frequently throughout the next few days as I complete the video. (If I’m breaking any terms by reviewing a 3rd party training product, I apologize and understand if you have to delete this thread).

Thanks!

Whew, okay, I got to lesson 20 of 29 and it took near 8 hours probably. I messed up a few times and had to redo a few things but no big deal.

Here is what I have so far:

Being a beginner, I’m thrilled! Everything about the video review was pretty easy to understand, and zBrush’s interface is also very easy to understand - from a web usability guru, it’s definitely laid out well. I’d say the most difficult part was trying to get the vertices during the topology remapping phase to flow correctly with as few triangles as possible, but after awhile I was able to remedy all of the holes…

I will post an updated render tomorrow. Thanks!

Ok just finished everything! Real pleased with the outcome. I learned a ton and of course several different methods to creating geometry. There weren’t many “uh what?”'s going on in the video tutorial, everything was explained well and I would definitely recommend the vid tut to any beginner interested in modeling with zspheres in zbrush.

There were no texturing instructions, so I have no idea what I’m doing, but I dabbled around a bit as you can see.

Here they are:
