my obj is huge - 180mb. It is normal??

Hi,

I’m new with zbrush3. I still learning.
i did with the zsphere a head very , very nice.
at the end i export in the .obj using the export at the bottom of the tools.
But i notice the fil is huge= 180mb for an head??
I try to import this in rhino, but block everything.

I notice that the other obj are small dimensions

So, before i begen again to do something cool…and fail to work with the other programs… i ask you:

  • i have to be carefully with something?
  • i make too subdiv?
  • how i export better??

I don’t know is something that can couse this huge dimensions??

Thanks

It’s because it’s a million poly mesh…

Usually the workflow is export the low res. version, and a displacement map…

Even if you try to open that mesh in a 3d package, it will surely crash.

Hi Leobugg,

I’m using Z-Brush 3.1 in conjunction with Rhino V4. As ISK-86 has pointed out you are really going to struggle to use the MESH if you export it out on a high resolution. Also, even if you can open it up in Rhino… if the resolution is too high then you will struggle to do any further work such as Boolean it with structural geometry created in Rhino.

If for example I start out with a polyshere with a poly count of 96 at SDiv 1 (geometry pallet). I will only sub divide this by a maximum of 6 giving me 98304 poly count. This will normally export out and import into Rhino no trouble at all. Also, I can then further edit it in Rhino.

Low polycounts give lower levels of detail, but it all depends on your ultimate aim.

Hope this helps a little.

thanks! I need to know how it works the topology and the displacement map.
I need to understand them for help me to do better models.
Thanks again
