Well, technically, I’d say for a cartoon or even stylized character, your proportions are fine. You aren’t going for a realistic, so 6 heads as the general rule,(*yes it’s a rule :).) doesn’t apply here. I get a good feeling of her proportions. Very Disney like, possibly Dreamworks as well. I do know there are some great tutorials on Google search of character sheets. import a few and compare your proportions. You’ll see, that roughly you’re pretty dead on for a stylized character.
Keep it up man, you’re doing exceptionally well.
^ 6 HEADS??? “YUCK”… MORE like “8”
“Loomis” , “Bammes” etc…
But anyway, great job for a first full body sculpt, with the polypaint and all…
Your off to a phenomenal start, she has allot of appeal…
You’re probably a couple of subdivisions to HIGH, if I’m being constructive. She appears to be about 2 to 5 million and that’s way overkill for such simple shapes.
Hey,
I do stand corrected, I had meant to say for their character cartoon can be 6, but yes 8 is for realistic proportions. My bad. Thank you for correcting my mistake in typing :).
very good start
Thanks a lot guys! I’m very happy about that positive feedback!
Never heard of the 8 Head rule, thats very interessting, did already some research about that.
I will definitely do more, maybe i try some more realistic stuff. I realy want to get into hard-surface modelling too.
Never expected that zBrush is so much fun! Thank you!
Edit: Ah, and the polycount is a thing i definitely have to look at because the girl has a polycount of 10,5 million in total, i think thats a “bit” too much haha
What tutorials are you watching? These are great for your first few sculpts!
Thanks a lot EvilSniper!
Actually i just watched a couple of zBrush classroom Tutorials to know how the UI works,
and to learn some techniques i watched the realy realy awesome tutorials from Matt Thorup.
There are 2, one for most of the basic stuff and a second one with more advanced stuff.
Each step is very well explained, you get some brushes, a nice and usefull custom UI, i realy can recommend them!
Thanks, I’ll definitely have to check him out with his tutorials! I was browsing his art style and I really like it. You’ve done a great job of learning from him, clearly! Keep it up, don’t stop! Lookin good!
Have been a bit busy the last couple of days, at the moment i’m trying to sculpt a good friend of mine,
this time i used marvelous designer to create the basic shape of the clothes, this was realy fun!
Critique is very welcome! Thank you.
A little Update
Very nice work:D
Hey! Thanks a lot!
But i’ve done again the mistake that i’ve rendered in a way to small resolution ~ have to remember that next time.
anyways, i’m realy satisfied with my progress since i began 4 weeks ago. didn’t thought it would be so much fun learning this
So actually this was my first zbrush model, weeks ago.
But then i realised maybe it’s more important to start with some basics beause i had so much trouble making progress with her, and then i created those toon characters which was really fun! So, yesterday i picked up this project again and spend some hours on it. This should be my first more realistic attempt of a character and it’s sooooo hard There is sooo much to learn.
At the moment she looks a bit like medusa and i have no idea if this method is a good one for hair but i wanted to post the status here, maybe someone has some recommendations, criqtique or hints ;D
Oh! And the eyeballs are made with the multieye tool from PabloM! This works great i think.
A little update, did the base of the hair completely new, also the tank-top and the bra with help of marvelous designer.
Any advice or critique is very welcome!
Best greetings,
haiquh!
Spend some more Hours on Lara, mostly on the tank-top. I think i will have finished the base of all of the objects (arrow, bow etc.) soon and then i can focus more on the details of every part.
Also worked first time with fibermesh to generate hair of the arrow and eyebrows. The Materals are ofcourse not final, just a quick-shot
As this is my first more realistic character, any critique or advise is very welcome!
Thank you!
Hey there. I see your first girl you posted came out looking nice. Good job! This last one you have posted is looking very good.
Keep up the good work. If you would like a critique I would say focus a bit more on the bridge of the nose between the two eyes.
I like the tank top as well.
Thanks a lot for your feedback Daniel! Really appreciated!
I definitely will spend some extra time at the face details after everything else is finished, at the moment it looks a bit strange to me i think.
Maybe its because there a missing so much details, like pores and so on. But thanks!
Here’s another update, i think this will be the last before i finish this project.
Critique is very welcome! Thank you!
At some point i have to call it “finished”. I learned a lot by creating her, but now i have to focus on the next project
This was my first more detailed character. Rendered in zBrush, postwork with Photoshop. Excited to learn more with the next Project!
I hope you guys like it. Critique is very welcome!
Your work is really impressive. I have followed your work right from the first toon character you built upto this point. Very well done. However, with the model of Lara, the bridge of the nose and the part between the two eyes seem kinda strange to me. But I am probably nitpicking. Keep 'em coming Champ!
