Thanks, I’ll definitely have to check him out with his tutorials! I was browsing his art style and I really like it. You’ve done a great job of learning from him, clearly! Keep it up, don’t stop! Lookin good!
Have been a bit busy the last couple of days, at the moment i’m trying to sculpt a good friend of mine,
this time i used marvelous designer to create the basic shape of the clothes, this was realy fun!
Critique is very welcome! Thank you.
A little Update
Very nice work:D
Hey! Thanks a lot!
But i’ve done again the mistake that i’ve rendered in a way to small resolution ~ have to remember that next time.
anyways, i’m realy satisfied with my progress since i began 4 weeks ago. didn’t thought it would be so much fun learning this
So actually this was my first zbrush model, weeks ago.
But then i realised maybe it’s more important to start with some basics beause i had so much trouble making progress with her, and then i created those toon characters which was really fun! So, yesterday i picked up this project again and spend some hours on it. This should be my first more realistic attempt of a character and it’s sooooo hard There is sooo much to learn.
At the moment she looks a bit like medusa and i have no idea if this method is a good one for hair but i wanted to post the status here, maybe someone has some recommendations, criqtique or hints ;D
Oh! And the eyeballs are made with the multieye tool from PabloM! This works great i think.
A little update, did the base of the hair completely new, also the tank-top and the bra with help of marvelous designer.
Any advice or critique is very welcome!
Best greetings,
haiquh!
Spend some more Hours on Lara, mostly on the tank-top. I think i will have finished the base of all of the objects (arrow, bow etc.) soon and then i can focus more on the details of every part.
Also worked first time with fibermesh to generate hair of the arrow and eyebrows. The Materals are ofcourse not final, just a quick-shot
As this is my first more realistic character, any critique or advise is very welcome!
Thank you!
Hey there. I see your first girl you posted came out looking nice. Good job! This last one you have posted is looking very good.
Keep up the good work. If you would like a critique I would say focus a bit more on the bridge of the nose between the two eyes.
I like the tank top as well.
Thanks a lot for your feedback Daniel! Really appreciated!
I definitely will spend some extra time at the face details after everything else is finished, at the moment it looks a bit strange to me i think.
Maybe its because there a missing so much details, like pores and so on. But thanks!
Here’s another update, i think this will be the last before i finish this project.
Critique is very welcome! Thank you!
At some point i have to call it “finished”. I learned a lot by creating her, but now i have to focus on the next project
This was my first more detailed character. Rendered in zBrush, postwork with Photoshop. Excited to learn more with the next Project!
I hope you guys like it. Critique is very welcome!
Your work is really impressive. I have followed your work right from the first toon character you built upto this point. Very well done. However, with the model of Lara, the bridge of the nose and the part between the two eyes seem kinda strange to me. But I am probably nitpicking. Keep 'em coming Champ!
Thanks a lot for the comment! It’s realy nice to know that someone is following my progress But you are right, i struggled a lot with that part. I hope the next project will get better! Thank you!
okay guys,
i really need help here.
for some reason i am struggling a lot with this one, started today and i am horrible at facial expression as you can see at my model from lara too.
the head looks weird even for such a early early state and i cant figure out why.especially the 3/4 view.
is it because i used a toony character as a refrence and they just look strange at the biginning? i was really more confident when i made lara
maybe someone has some suggestions here, would appreciate it a lot! thank you!
Making emotions and sculpting natural smile or grin is extremely hard. So prepare yourself for lots of tweaking. When I was practicing smiling faces I found it is much easier to sculpt a person in neutral mood and then introduce emotions. This way you ensure that most of the structure is done properly and then make modifications according to face action.
- As you probably noticed already the teeth are playing a huge role when smiling. But the shading of teeth is also important. First of all make sure that dental arches have proper curvatures and mouth corners are not pressed against the side teeth so there is a gap between them. Due to the gap the side teeth will fall in shadow while still remain exposed. Without this shadow when all teeth are lit evenly the grin looks flat. Sure in case of Jinx you might want to accentuate her crazy smile but even in reference she has this shadows in corners. That’s a good example when rendering with shadows in early stages might help a lot in evaluating the quality of sculpt.
- I also always recommend people to introduce at least very primitive brow hair. Without brows all faces look so odd. And when it comes to expressions they are even more important. You don’t need nothing special here, even polypainted brows will help a lot.
- Right now, when looking at three quarters view her face appears a bit too flat and squarish (especially above the eyes at the outer socket). It looks better in updated image though. There are also some issues with head depth… but maybe this is due to the stylized look and very thin neck.
- From a side view the smile looks too flat. Mouth corners should be placed more backwards. And take special care to nasolabial furrow. In reference image it is deeper close to the mouth corners as the smiling muscles pulling them below the bulk of cheek fat pads. In your sculpt the fold is too defined and sharp and doesn’t reach the corners. Also be very careful at defining nasolabial furrow close to the nose - the medial portion is affected by other (not smiling) muscles, often indicating disgust, snarling or just visually ages a person.
- The bottom jaw looks really odd. Especially the transition to hyoid bone below.
I hope that was helpful and don’t give up
Thank you Vir Norin!
Such a helpfull comment of an experienced user like you is pure gold! I definitly will try to get those things fixed like you sayed.
Someone sayed the eyebrow muscles are wrong too, they look too angry. On the refrence Jinx is more excited then angry looking.
But thanks again!
I will post an update later this day (morning here).
Slowly making progress here. Hair is just a quick placeholder to get a feel for the face.
Not to be too optimistic but i think this is getting somewhere. I actually like the front view quiet a bit
Still need a lot of tweaking. Comments an critique is very welcome! Struggling a lot with this one
Thank you!
Best greetings,
Haiqu
