My First Zbrush Sculpt : An Evil SKULL (W.I.P)

Hello Zbrush community, I would like to drop in and show my first ever, first real attempt at Organic modellin with Zbrush 4r2 ! I decided to jump the gun and try modelling a skull from scratch. As you can see i am not going for the traditional human skull and wanted to make it look a bit evil by making the eyeball areas a bit pointy :

… Here are some screen caps of what ive done in the past 2 hours. I have very little knowledge of the program and have been watching tutorials and still learning the ropes … I am hoping to get some feedback.

The brushes I used are Clay, Move , ClayBUILDUP, Claytube. I also used a polyshere for the upper part of the skull and the jaw was actually created with Zspheres. The upper part of the skull actually took only 20 mins to do . Trying to figure out how to use Zspheres was the tricky part LOL ( i couldnt figure out what subtools were till i started messing around with it ) … I do plan to add more details like teeth, cracks, and lighting …

Questions I do have if anyone can help ;

  • Any good pointers in making the teeth ? Right now in my subtool palette, 2 layers . The upper skull and lower skull … Does that mean i have to make them individually ???

  • Also, when i SAVE THE TOOL, will it save BOTH ? or one at at time ? im still a bit confused about this … Im really hoping to push my skills in 3d modelling in hopes to get in the industry … maybe … =)

Thanks a bunch !

Welcome!

When you save a tool then the current tool with all it’s subtools are saved, other tools are not.
So in your example when you save the tool, then both upper and lower skull are saved in the tool.

If you have multiple tools (who can also have their own subtools) and you want to save all of them (not just the current one) then you can save a file —> File > Save As.

Hope this helps …

Ahhh very Cool ! … got it ! … i wouldnt have figured that out on my own ! THANK YOU ! =) I will continue and attempt at finishing this off tomorow and add the teeth + textures on the skull …

So ive successfully added a row of teeth on the jaw line . The teeth were added individually and I have merged visible ( and hid the jaw and skull … I would like to ‘mirror’ the row of teeth on the other side but i cant seem to figure out how to do it …

please help >_< …

ok after spending an hour figuring out and understand there is a MIRROR and WELD button from tutorials but it seems to not work for some reason. After I have merged all the teeth together and when i select the X axis and nothing — I keep getting this message :

" The resulting 3D mesh doesnt contain any polygons "

ok after 2 painful ( lol ) hours trying to figure it out … i MANAGED to pull something out of my hat =) I mirrored via the X axis but when i MOVE the teeth to the other side and mirror it , it seems to work …( was there some rule to where i should have placed it > ) … SO … what i did was MOVE the row of teeth to the other side … MIRROR under the X axis ( and it was reversed ) then i literally moved it like before MIRRORED again so i ended up with a pattern … made the connection for the teeth to form and deleted the unwanted teeth by CTRL+SHIFT and delete hidden under the geometry palette… Talk about pulling teeth LOL =)
