My First Week with ZBrush

I’ve been on the fence for quite a while on whether I should take the plunge with ZBrush, or if I could handle the learning curve or not with no real sculpting experience. Last year at SIGGRAPH in Vancouver, I practically lived in the Pixologic booth watching people sculpt, and I’ve been soaking up some tutorial videos trying to get a handle on things. Anyway, last week I decided to go for it and bought ZBrush. Man, am I kicking myself for not buying this sooner.

It’s fairly intimidating to post images here, seeing all the great artwork…but I figured I’d share some of my first sculpts from this week. Obviously, still have a lot to learn - not just with the software, but with basic anatomy - but I’m still having fun.

Excellent start, keep them coming! Like the prince of darkness, Tim Curry would be proud.:+1:

Thanks! I appreciate the feedback!

Here’s what I managed to do tonight. A quick smurf, and a poor start to what was supposed to be Alfred Hitch****…

Still haven’t quite figured Fibermesh or the Groom brushes out yet.

You’ve made a great start, loving the development and enthusiasm a lot.

Suggestion wise Id just like to say they all seem to share a common feel, and to me it seem they all are a little flat as if you’ve sculpted from the viewers position and not really moved around the models, its early days and very forgivable but you might like to start moving about and rotating and I think youll start to get a fuller more rounded feel to the sculpts.

Great stuff and cant wait to see week 52

Thanks for the great advice. Scrolling up, I can see what you mean - they all have that same, staring-blankly-at-the-camera look.

Wow! I’d never guess you were a beginner.

Thanks Yodra! I appreciate that.

Just doodling a bit with Dynamesh tonight…
