My First Serious Head attempt

Okay, been watching this forum for ages, trying to pick up tips etc.
This is actually the second head I’ve tried, but as I’m happier with the overall shape on this, I think I may finish it.

It’s been inspired by Antropus, and his tutorials etc., so I dedicate it to him.

I’ve got to the stage where I’m adding fine detail, and even started texturing it! (my first efforts were hopeless!). For texturing, I’m using Zapplink/Photoshop, with heavy use of cloning from real photos. The man is based loosely on ‘Locke’ in that brilliant series ‘LOST’ - I STRESS LOOSELY. I started with a low poly base head downloaded from this forum (it was called ‘headcanvas’, but I cant remember who it was that uploaded it, so I apologise to him/her). Updates may be a little slow as I can’t spend 24-7 on it (I wish I could though, I love this program!)

All crits more than welcome.

Any crits?..please…

this is freakin awesome!!!

…man love those lips…love it whoile!

Thanks Butt_Sahib911. It’s good to know someone has seen this post.
I’m glad you like it.

Looking nice! I dig the lips too.
Don’t be disheartened if nobody comments. There are a lot of good posts that go unnoticed here just because of the large number of posts made. Keep up the good work and you’ll eventually produce something that gets people to sit up and take notice. :+1:

Hey good job on that head!
Im a new user to and dam i love Zbrush!!

Thanks Tidalias - I appreciate your comments.
I struggled for a while with Antropus’ technique before trying Zapplink with Photoshop, and it all seems so easy now. Just got to love that clone tool though!
Esareno - it wont be long before you find yourself shivering because you are that hungry due to not being able to leave Zbrush alone - it’s addictive. If you’re not Zbrushing, then you’ll be checking posts on this site - it’s got to be the coolest program on the planet! Thanks for your comment.

By the way, sorry about the quality of the pics - I’ll try to improve them in my next update.

Some more subtle details added.

Better pics this time also!

More fine detail added, and tweaked the colour texture a bit as well.

Okay, it’s taken a while, but here’s an update on this (I’m fed up with looking at this head.) All Zbrush & Photoshop.
Crits welcome as usual. Thanks for looking.

Looks really good. I like the skin details. The only crit I can make is if you look at your reference photo of the actor. The mass of the cheek overlaps and is so close the side of the nose it creates that deep crease. There’s quite a gap from that crease on your model. Have you seen Thomas Mahler’s Artist in Action clip? He has some great tips and shows how he masks this area to create a nice crease.

Good luck!

Thanks for the crit Rogfa.
I have seen that tutorial, and it is good - it’s gonna take some time to get to that standard. The reference pic was just used as a guide - I didn’t intend my model to be the exact copy, but thanks all the same.
Anyhow, here’s the latest update - I’ve changed the eyes a little and given him eyelashes (didn’t realise they were missing!). Hope you like it.
