My first design (early)

This is my first design and it is very early on in the development process. I figured an alien would be easier (for me) then to model a human head. I got Zbrush yesterday.

it is a common newbie mistake that I see everyone make…the habit of subdividing to high resolutions for no reason. there is absolutely no reason to have 1.5 million polygons in a face that has almost no fine detail. it is a good idea to start out with the low resolution meshes and block in the major anatomy so that it doesnt turn out soft and blobby when you get to the higher resolutions

Thanks for the tip. I have a problem though. I seem to not be able to open the file (I saved it as a document in Zbrush). It seems that it just won’t open (it says it is running), and my screen does not freeze up. Does this mean that the file is too large…? I have no clue at all.

You have to save your model out as a ZTool. I barely or not at all actually use documents.

Man, Pixologic should have some kind of warning on saving models. I always here of people losing their first work by saving as a document. But I guess there is a warning that things will be dropped to the canvas if you do so, but to someone new, that’s not entirely clear what that means with all that 2.5d stuff.

Don’t know why it won’t open. But if you did save it as document only, then the model was dropped to the canvas, no longer full 3D, but 2.5D, only depth information and not rotatable.
