This is horrible, my computer had died.
I am nearly positive that it is the motherboard. If this is the case and I can replace the board will everything with ZBrush be normal? If its worse then that and the hard drive is dead too how screwed am I?
I guess what I’m asking is what now?
This is very very depressing, I love my computer especial while ZBrush is running, its sort of like having part of me cut off… like part of my face or something…
I did get the CD in the nice little 10th anniversary tin so I could end up getting a new computer, which brings up my next question:
If I get a new computer, what is the most awesome thing out there as far as laptops go? If I have to do this I want to do it right and have something that ZBrush will thrive in.
Hopefully I can do the motherboard thing, its a LOT cheaper…
Thanks you guys, and wish me luck, I may have lost everything I have ever made…
Cheers,
Mealea
PS: If I don’t respond for a while its due to not having a computer, its sort of a vicious loop…
The above system is quite pricey and probably overkill for what you require but I think in general you should be looking for a multi-threaded CPU (like an i7), at least 8 GB RAM (future proofing for when ZB finally goes 64 bit) and a SSD for the software + large HDD for your data. As we know ZB doesn’t do much with the GPU so this component of the system need not be top of the line unless you are using other apps that demand it.
Also be sure that the laptop you are looking at has a decent display, such as IPS for better viewing angles and accurate colour reproduction.
I hope the transition to your new system is painless and you are able to recover your work.
Thankyou!
I THINK it is intact but I dont know yet…
Hya ZBer!
It sucks and its scary, thank you for that bit of the PDF, mine is obviously inaccessible at the moment…
Eeeep!
I think its going to work out…
Thank you Marcus!
I will do that and I am very optimistic… and nervous, I have eaten all of my fingernails…
Hya Trist!
That thing looks GREAT! I cannot find prices for it however…
I know ZBrush doesnt care about the videocard and that is one of the greatest things in the world to m, very very clever.
I do use things that love a good videocard and have been thinking about that a lot lately…
Thank you guys all very much.
Seriously.
Where I am at now is I have a new motherboard ordered, it is coming directly from China and has gotten as far as Tennessee as of yesterday morning. Its like waiting for for someone to decide weather to snip the blue wire or the red wire…
A very good friend of mine took it apart and found a number of blown fuses or things like them so we THINK this will work.
If it does work I will be back up an going crazy with in the week, if not I am going to buy a monster. Buying a monster is going to take longer but it will be a laptop that makes reality bend under my Wacom pen.
GRIN!
Thank you all again, I adore the lot of you.
Cheers!

PS:
The computer I am using at the moment has MS Paint on it, the temptation is amazing!
