Multiple issues on a mac

Ok, I need a hand, because right now I’m not sure if I need to re-install, initialize, or what, but I’m having a handful of issues running this on my mac and I want to see if these are common, or if I’m just lucky.

Here goes.

  1. When I save my tool I always have to reset the matcap. It never keeps the one I saved it with.
  2. Even when I have RGB only selected, it will still apply brush strokes if I don’t have Z Intensity to 0.
  3. Even after I fill my object, when I go to paint and use the lazy mouse it will not work. Lazy mouse works fine for texturing, but does not work at all for coloring.
  4. One of my subtools does not allow me to paint on it at all. I don’t know if I accidentally locked it, or if it’s just an error, but it is quite frustrating since I did a lot of detail work on it and now cannot add any color information. All the other subtools allow me to paint on them.
  5. When I bump up my undo levels it always reverts back to only 4 levels whenever I restart the program. How do I make it so it will keep my levels higher for all future work?

Thanks, gang. I know some of you might have some quality input.

I’m really looking forward to showcasing this model as I’ve spent quite alot of time on it and I think it’s coming out pretty good.

1) You haven’t filled your object with a material before saving. Selecting a material simply updates the instance that you’re working with. Selecting a new material changes what’s seen on the model. It’s the same as with color – you have to fill the object if you want the current selection to “stick”.

  1. I can’t duplicate this. I need more information concerning your settings, brush, etc.

  2. Again, I can’t duplicate this. See #2.

  3. Have you accidentally masked it? Try pressing Tool>Masking>Clear

  4. Press Cmd+Shift+I to store your settings. Doing that with the Undo is probably a mistake, though. ZBrush will always remember as many undos as possible without sacrificing performance. The Undo settings specify how many it will always keep, no matter what, even if performance must suffer to do that. What an Undo really comes down to is a stored state of the model. Take a 10 million poly model and keep 64 instances of it in memory – guess how smoothly your computer’s going to perform?

Thanks. I appreciate the help.

  1. Ok, so my next question is how do I fill an object with a material? There is a button for this on the color palette, but there is no button for this in the material palette. There are buttons to copy and paste, and I’ve tried that, but it doesn’t work. Is there a button somewhere to “fillObject” with matcap material?

  2. Regardless of what brush size, stroke, or alpha I use, it will always apply material “M” “pressure” to my brush even when I only have the Rgb button toggled down. In other words, the “Rgb” button on my system works exactly like the “Mrgb” button. There is no difference.

  3. I don’t know what other information I can give on this one. I am very familiar with lazy mouse, and it just doesn’t work when I want to add Rgb detail to my model.

  4. Ok, cool. I did have a mask. Even though I was trying to deselect it by clicking away and dragging, it must not have been working. The clear button on the menu worked like a charm though. Thanks.

  5. Ok, I probably need to grab some more RAM then. I’m running 8 gigs on a dual 2.8 quad core mac, but I run out of undo’s pretty quickly. Guess I need to slow down sometimes. It’s usually needed when I forget that I have symmetry turned on. But I’m sure I’m not alone on that one… LOL.

I appreciate the help, Aurick. I have to say, you seem to be a very attentive moderator. ZBrush did a good job in having you man this post! I can’t imagine the headaches you go through though with everyone anxious about the next update…
