multi-tile displacement maps with built in displacement menu?

Hi,
is it possible to generate multi-tile displacement maps in zbrush3.5 with the built-in function? or we have to wait Multi-Displacement plugin for ZB3.5? (as far as I know, it’s not released yet).

Thanks!

Since this thread has none reply, I’m gonna bring it up again to confirm
whether I could export multi-tile 32 bit displacement in zbrush 3.5R3…
any help?

Currently your workflow would be:

  1. Assign polygroups based on your UV tiles by pressing Tool>Polygroups>UV Groups.

  2. Then split your mesh into separate subtools based on the UV tiles by pressing Tool>SubTool>Groups Split.

  3. Now you can generate a displacement map for each UV tile subtool through the Tool>Displacement Map submenu.

But I supposed it wouldn’t work if I re-import the “original” low-res mesh or using morp target to get more precise displacement, and the perform the above steps. I’ve tried it (using ZB3.5 R2 , because I haven’t updated to R3), and indeed it didn’t work. Unfortunately in our pipeline we need to use the above workflow ( using original mesh as base mesh instead of deformed base mesh), and doing polygroup and split just don’t work. Or I missing some step to get it right?

You should upgrade to 3.5 R3. R2 is no longer supported.

The method should work fine if you import your original mesh before doing the Groups Split. You only need a morph target if you need to go back up the subdivision levels (which you don’t if you only want a displacement map). If you need to generate texture maps from polypaint then do those on a clone of your model.
