I’m using Zbrush 4R6 on Mac with Maya 2012 and RenderMan Studio. Currently I’m working with models that need multiple UV quadrants. Displacements work just fine and the Multi-Map exporter spits out several displacement maps with properly smoothed UVs and works perfectly in my RenderMan Slim shaders.
The problem I have is with my polypaint textures. Wether I use the multi-map exporter or do it manually with polygroups (hiding other groups while generating the texture in the tools palette), the UVs are NOT being smoothed and there are gaps when I apply the textures to my models in my Slim shaders.
I’ve tried recalculating the UV, I’ve tried deleting lower Subdivision levels, cloning the model, etc etc. Nothing will make the UVs smooth when ZBrush creates the texture map. Just a note, I always have smooth and smooth UV buttons pressed from the moment I bring my base mesh into ZBrush. As I said, displacements are generated properly.
This problem doesn’t seem to happen with a single UV Quadrant being used. At least I haven’t noticed it so far since I installed 4R6.
I hope this isn’t a bug because I rely on ZBrush for texturing and creating mattes and need this to work with multi-quadrant UVs on many objects in my scene.
thanks
