Thanks for your kind reply… If u say it in matrix is there any option to place gems on the mesh…bcoz after sculpting in zbrush If I want to do pave setting is there any option in matrix??? Please reply…
i will write a better tutorail but basic way i do it is this.
Create base model
Decimate model to around 300k poly
Duplicate model
Zremesh model to around 5-10 k poly
export both models in OBJ format to matrix
import models one at a time into matrix
put the models on seprate layers
convert the low poly version to nurbs with command meshtonurb
select created nurb model, put on its own layer
use that version with gemstones on surface
proceed as normal
Thanks a lot for your reply… ofcourse eagerly waiting for the tutorial…
hi guys

Well here we are again. a little personal project that if i can get to a suitable standard i might do a kick starter with it. so watch this space. in the mean time here’s the concept… these are pendants that are in essence sculptures being calved from stone but unfinished hence the rough edges. CnC welcome.
and here’s the second one. at the moment its too thick to wear, and a bit to heavy even when hollowed out so i think i need to maybe work on the concept more… see how it goes. the statue is based on an unfinished torso of Neptune.
a change of direction… made in Zbrush, rendered in Vray. love the metal but the stones need some work, comments and critiques welcome:D
Very nice and clean designs!
The ring reminds me somewhat of game of thrones. It’s like a House Baratheon ring;)
here the results of my latest experiments in jewellery design and rendering. rendered in vray. CNC welcome
well another year another commendation (bronze) in use of technologies at the Goldsmiths Awards 2015. Annoyingly i didn’t get anything in the sculpture section this piece was also entered in… lost out to yet more hand made work.the model is based on my current girl friend who wonderfully didn’t have an issue with this model going out for a public competition. The print was done on an envision tech machine through Weston Beamor. Brilliant company for jewellery production.
(my ugly mug on the right)
CnC welcome
-= incoming rant =-
[deep breath] why is there this stigma of any kind of cad work in peoples mind especially when it comes to jewellery. just this idea that when somethings made by hand it some how has more value or there is more skill involved is nonsense. We still have to use our hands to make the computer work, there is no scan and make button and its something i get really F****ED off at that people think its that easy.
its even worse in the UK Jewellery trade if you say your a cad artist your immediately treated as a leper. only recently through the efforts of a few has that notion in the trade started to erode and my craft is becoming more accepted. but even then Joe public still has this wistful idea that their jewellery that they purchased was hand made by some old guy in a workshop when more often its made from pre-purchased findings and bolted together.
little tip if it says HAND FINISHED - it was probably made in CAD…
Well Done… I can see and understand your frustrations, always been this was, do a digital painting and folks say you can’t smell the paint for feel the texture… Holy Moly buy a tube of paint and sniff it and rub your hand of your carpet is that is art for you…
Yes in my country, they do the same look at you as if you are crazy… titles like Master Jeweler etc seem to take a preference of the word hand crafted… but the reason i now do jewellery is due to the fact that in 2010 an South African Jewellery manufacturer could find anyone to do a piece for them and someone suggested this guy in Namibia using ZBrush and it changed my life…
I can rough things up and you’ll think its had crafted and am doing so for a local guy, thus Bull S… baffels brains…
The beauty is in the final piece… but lift your chin and stand tall…
yea Ive had similar, and I’m glad to hear my pain is shared:D… I’m tempted to do a few videos to dispel the notions of hand made being better or just an open letter to the jewellery trade. though what made me laugh a while ago at a trade show i talked to some one who as soon as i said I’m a CAD artist practically threw my card back at me and said i was the “death of the trade”.
but yes i will keep going with my private war…
The attitude towards 3D printed jewelry pisses me off. I think we have it a bit better off in the US when it comes to 3D Printed and machined designs. My teacher prefers working by hand when he does jewelry, but he’s always said “Do what gets you the results you want.” The guy that we all hope is going to replace him has the same attitude. That being said, I don’t think we’re completely in the clear and there still is a stigma attached for 3D work because people don’t understand that it isn’t not necessarily faster or easier to produce a piece of 3D printed jewelry than it is for a master carver or fabricator to make it by hand. It still takes a lot of work to learn programs and get good at them and figure out how to actually get the results you want out of it. It’s just easier on the hands and eyes and you’re much freer to make mistakes and experiment because it can all be undone without starting over. But I don’t really think it’s “faster” or “easier” unless you’re doing something really simple, but it’s still probably not actually faster because the time you spend printing would be the time someone else would spend carving a wax (and if we are actually talking something that simple, they’ll probably have cast before you’re done printing.) It’s just more precise and easier to fix (or prevent) mistakes.
mmm totally. well one day I’m sure we will be the ones running the trade so its just a mater of biding your time… though I do enjoy reminding hand workers that when it comes to multiples CAD wins hands down. oh well
and as I said before its good to see my pain is shared
hi guys. been a while since Ive posted anything. been really busy working with my 3d printer to get models ready for casting and such. so hopefully a really big post full of wonderful things will be coming soon. in the mean time here’s a little work in progress piece. made in zbrush, rendered in matrix 7.5 vray.
