Hey everyone, I just wrapped up the design for my latest creature yesterday, and I’m excited to finally share it with you all. Meet Morvar . Designing this beast was an incredibly fun challenge, especially pushing the blend of insectoid and crustacean anatomy while maintaining a formidable, grounded silhouette. Figuring out the overlapping plates of the carapace and giving it that iridescent, beetle like finish was one of my favorite parts of the process.
I envisioned Morval as an apex ambush predator native to dense, lush rainforests and murky swamps. Despite its heavy, armored look, it moves with eerie, fluid silence, using those massive back appendages to effortlessly pull itself through thick jungle vines and mangrove roots.
Its iridescent shell acts as perfect camouflage in the wet, dappled light of the swamp, allowing it to wait completely motionless before using its powerful digitigrade legs to launch forward and strike with its massive, specialized blade arm.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any questions you have about the sculpting process. Thanks for looking!
