More Portraits

I often visit the zbrush forums to learn what I can about this amazing and powerful program.
The talent here is over the top and tutorials are exceptionally helpful. Thanks so much for being generous and giving by revealing techniques and development. Everyone’s working hard out there.
I’m still noodling away with my vinyl portraits and have been getting some of my images into competitions.
I humbly post a few for now…

Steve Buscemi as Nucky Thompson (American Illustration)

Geoffrey Rush (Creative Quarterly 30)

Mitt Romney (Creative Quarterly 30)

Your first picture looks like Steve Buscemi in my opinion.

I think I understand why you chose gold when you textured Mitt Romney.

Hi BiscuitTickler. That actually is Steve Buscemi. I accidentally wrote his character name from Boardwalk Empire. Glad it reads.
I’ve since fixed it.
thanks

Here’s a study I did of John C. Reilly as a miniature figurine

reilly1024.jpg

Instantly recognisable.

Great carricatures, checked out all of yours.
That’s a nice talent to have, good niche I imagine.

Thanks, Gordon
Thanks MattSkinny

I’ve been noodling with these portraits on and off for a few years, though I haven’t done one for commission yet.
The recent updates to zbrush make me feel a lot more confident that I could do this kind of thing under a tight deadline.
Thanks for the kind words!

Another study. This is of actor Alan Cumming

These are fun, you are really capturing the essence of their likeness.

Agree with Rick, i think caricature is one of the hardest things and you doing it great!!:+1:small_orange_diamond:+1:

I recognized Alan Cummings from the little thumpnail. Good work. :+1:

Good gosh, your caricatures are terrific! Instantly recognizable, every one, and very much more than just the collections of exaggerated features that tend to be the standard in a lot of caricature work.

Thanks monstermaker, jpericles, HerraPuputti and SwampGhost for all the kind words. Likenesses are very challenging. I approach these sculpts much like painting. They’re meant to be seen primarily from one particular angle. Ironically, I’m working in 3d to produce a 2d result. These portraits look very strange if you look at them from the side, for example. Kind of like relief sculptures. I’ll see if I can dig up some snaps of these at the “wrong” angle. Might be kinda fun. Thanks again for being so supportive!

Fun with John Boehner

Good John Boehner! Knew it was him from the thumbnail.

Really cool! You’re building a nice portfolio, maybe look a little more at post/compositing in PS for presentation (have to do that too), and it would be perfect! Good job

OMG these are soo great! love your style and the simplicity/effeminacy of your forms. Not to mention the expressions of these faces! love them!

Thanks Webhead. Nice to know that these read when very small, too.
Thanks MattSkinny. I’ve never done any post in photoshop, but would love to learn how. Might come in handy.
Thanks hhssuu. Your enthusiasm makes me think that these are truly working.

Here’s a portrait of Jeff Daniels from his HBO show, “Newsroom”. I attempted to build a scene here.

Knew who he was from the thumbnail! Great job :+1:

Here’s a likeness I did of Maggie Smith portraying the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey.
