Monolith: A new character

Well, Monolith is the next character in the Nilia project, so here he is. My knowlege of anatomy isn’t perfect yet, but I’m working on it: if you see something off, please let me know. I haven’t started detailing yet, so I’m looking for crits on the form and anatomy.

C&C welcome, 121 is even better!

Keep in mind this guy is 12 feet tall.

I don’t have my exobiology anatomical reference handy, so I’ll have to eyeball the anatomy. It looks good to me!

The model and the detail look awesome. The only thing that kinda stood out to me when I first saw your model was the front legs. They look a little rigid. Something of that size looks like it would have a tough time walking around on them.

EVERYTHING LOOKS WORKABLE I THINK THE AREA WHERE THE STOMACH WOULD BE ON A TWO LEGGED SEEMS A BIT WIDE AND MIGHT NOT REQUIRE STOMACH MUSCLES NALSO HAVE YOU CONSIDERED A TAIL? :+1:

had a few distractions, so i haven’t gotten as much work done as i would have liked. uv mapped now, and i’m starting the detailing. grabs from zbrush.

C&C and 121 welcome

Good Job

Overall nice idea. He won’t run very fast, probably a good thing. The skin texture/displacement on legs and back is too uniform, thus it pulls away from the naturalness I believe you are going for. I actually preferred your look in the first posts. The updates torso came out good. The intersction of leh and body muscles on the lower half of your guy need the most work, before any surface texturing/displacement is attended to.

I always wondered where those skulls my buddy has on his garage came from. Wow.

thanks for the comments Jason and Guoguo1982. i agree with the uniform feeling to the texture. i redid a lot of areas, especially the legs and back, today, and after a lot of experimentation, i think i’ve arrived at something i’m fairly happy with so far. it needs a lot more work, and needs to be finished, obviously. right now i’m working on getting areas around the seams established, as i will be breaking this apart to detail at higher resolutions. this guy i’m intending to take to excessive levels with the displacements, to see how far i can push it. i’ll probably blow up my computer in the process. :stuck_out_tongue:

i will try to deal with the abdominal anatomy tomorrow, and see if i can make that seem a little more believable.

C&C and 121 welcome as always.

Huge difference from your last post! Much more realistically textured. Awesome work on the hands too.

The area where the biceps meet the shoulder muscles in your front view seems a little lumpy. Your first post seemed to be better in that area.

Great work!
