Models disappear when zoomed in and panning from the canvas edge (Solution post #8)

Does anyone get an issue when your model disappears while zoomed in really close and trying to orbit/pan your view from the border area of the canvas? It reappears when you try to pan/rotate again.

Just a little annoying that it happens, since it reverts to the view before you attempted to orbit/pan…

  1. Bonus question: I didn’t get an animation timeline at the top in the UI(not even at the first launch) and couldn’t find settings for enabling it anywhere - does anyone know where they would be?

((I am using Zbrush 4 on Vista 64 bit.))

as to question 2…Look in ZBrush4_whats_new.pdf in your ZBrush 4.0 Documentation folder.

I got the same. The eyes had dissopeared from the front, but showed from the side.

thanks, I should 've started there:o

As for #1 - it happens very frequently when you’re zoomed in all the way on, for example, a head of a single mesh/full body character. Doesn’t matter if you hide the rest of the body either…

Same here for issue no. 1. (Win XP64)
After a close zoom is impossible to pan using the border area of the canvas.

Start with a clean canvas and load a 3D primitive ( ie. Plane 3D). You can zoom very very close and pan with no problems. If you convert the primitive to Polymesh3D it will be impossible to pan again. It a constant behaviour and is really hard to work like this.
In ZBrush 3.5R3 everything is working fine.

I can reproduce this and will report this issue to the development team. Meanwhile you don’t get this effect if you use right-click navigation. If you can switch to that then it will help:

With RightClick Navigation turned on in the Preferences>Interface menu:

  • Right-click to rotate
  • Alt+right-click to pan
  • Ctrl+right-click to scale

I`m using a Wacom. I just found that this behavior is present on the Wacom and Left-Click navigation only when Right-Click Navigation option is turned ON.
If Right-Click navigation is OFF, everything is working fine.

I have to admit that I didn`t pay to much attention to this area and I had Right-Click navigation turned ON.

Thanks for your answer. It really helped.:+1:

Thanks very much for that information, I hadn’t thought that might affect it!

Solution:

  1. Turn off RightClick Navigation in the Preferences>Interface menu.
  2. Store the configuration by pressing Shift+Ctrl+i.

Sweet, it works. Thanks for the tip roctavian!
