Modeling help please

Hi i am self learner in zbrush … i have a question i was trying to find a way to draw the earth planet and extude it from the sphare …
i wanted to do it by masking but is there a better way like using the alpha masking plz help

The easiest is to take a Mercator projection height map of the earth (which you can very quickly find via a Google search) and import that into the Alpha palette. Assign spherical UV mapping to a sphere and Tool >> Masking >> Mask by Alpha. Now you simply use an Inflate or Size deformation to get the 3D results.

i try it but it didint work or the steps i took was wrong can any one guide me step by step plz and is this thing same as for the cylinder also

in other words you want to make a sphere that has bumps in the form of earth’s topology?

how detailed does it have to be?

yes to extude the from the masked alpha

wanted using the mask by alpha and thats for a sphere and how it will be for a cylinder coz when i do mask by alpha for a sphere or a cylinder the mask get stretched and not showing the details for the mask from the right and left ending even if i increase the subdiv
also in the same point how we can do the same thing ( mask by alpha ) for the sphere or the cylinder got curve shapes

here is a video showing the basic work flow and the results i got. bear in mind it was done quickly just to show you. you should be able to get better results if you take your time. it should apply to the cylinder as well.
if the land areas stretch, adjust the aspect of the texture you are going to use for the alpha before you import it into zbrush.
that’s about the best i can offer.

worse comes to worse. make an alpha for each continent and islands and extrude them one at a time.
