Modeling Hand Wraps

How would I go about in modeling handwraps in zbrush? I modeled the basic shape in maya and brought it over to zbrush. I added details by masking strips around the object, but I don’t think this is the proper way to do it since remasking what you masked before is not possible right if you unselect it once. Right?

So whats a nice trick in doing this?

If your model has UV mapping assigned, you can save the masks by using Tool>Masking>Create Alpha and then reapply it later using Tool>Masking>Mask by Alpha. Just save the created alpha, and apply it again later.

Thanks aurick, I’m going to try that. Sounds like a very cool trick.

I just did something similar for Thor’s boots here:

I found the Clay Tubes brush to be essential. By first pressing ALT to dig into the surface and then release ALT to build it back up it creates a pretty cool textured look with edges that seem to curl around the strap and add depth.

Hey awesome, thats exactly what I’m trying to do. Ill try the clay tool also. Im testing out the masking technique right now.

Ryan,

I’ve seen a couple of your videos and I gotta tell you, something about the way you work really resonates with me. You mentioned something in the Rasp video I think, it was about “leaving the tool marks in the piece” and I decided right then and there that come pay-day I’m buying some of your Gnomology stuff.

Great tip on the straps, I ran into a problem with bear claws tonight and this would have worked perfectly. Going to try it tomorrow.

ps. I am not a stalker. :stuck_out_tongue:
