Model has 344.458 Mil TotalPoints, is that alot?

Well, a simple question I suppose. But I would like to know if this is a lot because I know that Zbrush 4 can only handle so many points before it starts to crash. And what’s worse is when it saves the model with too many points successfully, but you can’t open it back up again.

Anyway, that’s the amount it gives me in Preferences -> Misc. Is there a way to lower my points count without altering the model? I’ve heard it helps to seperate everything into smaller subtools…

Should be using HD Geometry. just divide up to a million and a half to 2 mill then use http://www.pixologic.com/docs/index.php/HD_Geometry

Aye, Jawa64. I’ve been giving HD Geometry a go. My method (at least for creating humanoid figures) seems to be to subdivide the Zsphere figure three times using regular geometry so that I have enough flexibility to get the general curves in and then I subdivide the same figure 2 or 3 times using HD Geometry. How many times do you end up subdividing the geometry HD or otherwise? Also thanks for the link to the Pixologic content. I’ll give this HD section a good browse.

hd geometry is typically only for high frequency detailing. If you get a better edge flow and be able to hold more detail with regular just retopologize.
