Missing faces

I exported an obj of a head I’ve been working in maya into zbrush and the faces on the ears are missing. Double sided button does the trick but when I turn it of the faces vanish. In maya those faces are a strange shadowy color like a triangle, or a quad with a line in a middle the head is all quads. It has happened before and I had to delete the head and start from zero again. Please help any advice will help.

The normals are facing the wrong way around the ears. It would probably be best to fix this in Maya. I don’t have Maya, but most 3D apps will have a way to show you which way the normals are facing as well as a way to have them all facing the same way.
