Mike A Nash - Mechs and Videos

Hey guys,

Thought I’d share some concept work and videos for some mecha works I’m doing.
My goal is to use Z-brush to build hard surfaces to a 50-80% range for that final concept then rebuild on top of that using XSI. That way I’m well aware of the type of topology I need to lay down to finish the final piece and by that stage I’ve solved majority of the design issues inside Z-brush.

More videos to come, I’ll be trying to do some voice over work in future videos also.

This video kinda got corrupted during encoding and lost a good copy of it, so its kinda jumbled mainly due to having to salvage pieces off it, hey better then nothing tho haha
Video should be up real soon if its not working right.

Great work Mike! Thanks doing the vids, looking forward to checking them out when I get a chance.

Very interesting approach. I will have to give it a try. I am watching head concepting now. And I just was wondering if you use any references and think about some functionality while concepting?

Oh btw, I hope you’ll finish this soon. I need a new wallpaper

Cheers guys

Grubber - I usually keep references of other mecha 3d works and drawings, sometimes just to keep my brain thinking different. Also find it good to keep other works as refs to avoid re-producing already created ideas and details.

Oh, I see, thanks for your explanation!

Great work so far. And finally some new videos from you and in HD!

Few more quick concepts.

Another quick concept, almost done.

Oh Mike…
Hope to be able to do something like that in the future!

Great design Mike ! Can’t wait to see more

“quick hard surface conzept in Zrbush”
amazing!!!
love it!

Great concepts, lots of detail.

I’ve recently tried to concept a mech in zbrush and just couldn’t fill out the empty spaces with any meaningful detail. Your stuff flows really well and looks like everything’s got a purpose, very impressed.

The whole time I was watching you work in these vids, I was making robot sounds :stuck_out_tongue:

it’s really cool to watch you work… it’s always enlightening to see another artists process

Thanks guys!
Haha Shelby.

I decided to do a little more on this guy, in this video I pretty much re-work and add more to the overall concept.

Man, I was watching your progress of this model on the Facebook… and… woow, its awesome. Actually your work is awesome, hehe.
And, thank you so much for this video. I am a student, that way this is really helping me how to understand how important is the trick of dividing objects and dynameshing everything… well, doing the non organic thing from a Artistic view.

Thanks man!

love your work kravit … hope you’ll post more …

Hey, Mike, what do you use to retopo/reconstruct in softimage? I am a bit new to softimage, been a 3ds max user all my life and now migrating to XSI, 3dsMax has some awesome retopo tools, but i use topogun most of the time anyways. But does softimage has some modelling on surface workflow?
