Mesh turns black and duplicates all over the screen, I forget how to fix this!

Hi guys,

The other day something happened that I haven’t had happen in a year and I forget how to fix it.

Basically I hit some key and my mesh turned really dark and started duplicating all over the screen anywhere I moved my brush.

The mesh was not masked, and clearing the screen, redrawing the tool and hitting T did not bring it back to where it should be (the mesh was still black and duplicating where I moved the brush).

I had this happen before but I can’t find where I found out how to fix it. ZBrush crashed a minute later but I was hoping someone knew what I was talking about so I can save it in my “Odd Fixes” folder.

Its almost as if it got locked into a 2.5D mode of some sort.

V might have swapped the color to the secondary swatch (which by default, goes from white to black). If there was no polypaint then this would make the model go dark.

The 2.5D thing could also be typical 2.5d behavior. I find that when it’s spraying a mesh to the document (dots, freehand, spray, etc) it becomes near impossible to get it to edit the last stroke. If it does this again you may have to change the stroke type a few times to get it back to standard Drag Rect behavior. Then you should be able to just clear the document, drag a single instance of the tool onto the document, and enter edit mode again.

Thanks so much! I’ll give this a try if it happens again. It only happens when I fat finger something so it may never happen again but I tucked your fix away just in case it does.

I am learning ZB for the first time and I’ll have a tool, say the ‘Cube3D’ and it looks nice with the default red clay. Then all of a sudden it is kind of a darker red, almost like a few lights went out. The brightness is gone. Hitting “V” does what it’s supposed to do and it’s not that.

Ok, I just tried something as I was typing here. I brought in a new Cube3D and it looked fine. I hit ‘Make PolyMesh3D’ and as soon as I did it went dark. The highlights are kind of bluish as if it’s almost day for night.

What am I doing wrong? It’s hard to see the sculpt
