Mesh to Alpha?

I’ve searched the forums, but haven’t found anything that looks promising. What I’m looking to do is pretty straightforward, I hope. I’ve built a patch of chainmail, and I want to turn it into an alpha for sculpting purposes (because draping a character for a game in chainmail would quickly blow the polycounts through the roof :lol:).

You have something that looks right in the viewport? Grab document(alpha tile) not sure if you want CC on or off.

There are two ways. As Doug says, GrabDoc in the Alpha palette is one way.

  1. Alpha>Transfer>GrabDoc will give you a depth map of the canvas just as you see it.

  2. Selecting and using Tool>MRGZGrabber gives you the option to crop the result to the edges of the object.

*The CC switch is nothing to do with GrabDoc - it is used with the CropAndFill button and will clear any color already on the canvas before filling with the selected alpha.
