"mesh insert" + "append" problem

dear all,

i work on mac osx 10.5.8 and zbrush 3.2.

i know, there are already treads about problems with appendig subtools. But in general, i don’t have any problems with the “append”-function and did not save any tool in my process with partialy hidden mesh, as desribed in hell666’s-thread.
i think in this case, something goes wrong in to the “mesh insert” process…

i’m working on the medusa-tutorial from eric keller’s “introducing zbrush”-book.

i sculpted a snake-head with different subtools as tongue, fangs, eyes.
now, i want to append these snake-head with all these subtools to the medusa-head, which has already several subtools.

so as described in the book, i do following steps:

i load the snake-head, activate for every subtool the highest subd-level and delete the lower subd-levels.

i do a clone of every subtool.

then i choose the snake-head clone in the tool-palette and click “mesh insert”. there i choose all the cloned subtools from the snake-head to insert them in the snake-head.

so far, so good. then i choose my medusa-head in the tool-palette and append the snake-head version (with all subtools inserted).

now, in the subtool-palette, the name of the snake-head appears, but without preview-thumbnail.
all other subtools from the medusa-head are still visible as thumbnails in the subtool-palette, but apart from this, my canvas is just totally blanc… ???

could it be some scaling issue between the two models? -> “unify” in the transform-palette does not help…

well, well …
could solve the problem as described in hell666’s tread too. i meant that the reason for my problem was different, located in the “mesh insert”-process.
…anyway, just export as .obj, then append works fine.
