Mesh extremely slow unless any portion of it is hidden

Hi guys! I’m having a really strange problem with a model I’m sculpting. I was working with DynaMesh and I don’t know exactly when, but ZBrush started lagging very badly when using brushes. Even when painting masks it lags a lot. The mesh is only 119,000 points so it shouldn’t lag at all. What is even stranger is that if any part of the mesh is hidden, doesn’t matter which or how big, then it goes back to normal speed. I tried ZRemeshering it and exporting it into 3ds, then exporting it back and it didn’t work. Why is this happening?

Also please don’t judge the awful quality of the model, this is my very first time using ZBrush and I have only started working on the upper chest, the rest is just blocked out.

The obj is not going to help to find out the problem. It would need the native file in the same status that is giving you problems, that means a tool Zbrush format *.ztl with dynamesh. By the way your obj is quite quick even with dynamesh, but that doesn’t mean anything.
Also save the tool and load it in a clean project before submit to see if the problem persist, because perhaps in that point is gone.

Thanks a lot for your reply!

I actually think the .obj should have been able to replicate the problem, because this is the .obj that I exported from 3DS Max, meaning I opened ZBrush with a new project, imported this very same .obj file and the problem still happened. Also, it happened whether or not DynaMesh was turned on.

Here is the .ztl

Found the problem. You have dynamesh and also dynamic subdivision activated.

The dynamic subdivision was giving you a mesh a low higher density than the active points and each time you was moving some verts you can see telling you that is subdividing to 2 millions, and this for each small operation. Dynamic subdivision is not intended to be applied in high res meshes and probably you activated it by accident. Simply switch it off. The problem was not in the obj unless I activated also dynamic subdivision.

Thank you so much for your help, turning it off fixed it!
