Mesh discontinuity ?

Hi,

I works on my first complex model with zspheres, and whereas I finalized it, I realized of a “mesh discontinuity” problem, that you can see on the image below (encircled of red).

1° Which is the cause ?

2° How can I correct this problem (I would like to “unify” the mesh, to have a whole mesh without rupture) ?

Note : I already worked the details on the adaptive skin, thus, I do not prefer to touch the Zspheres, but only improve the skin, if possible.

Thank you.

Smooth edit tool will probably work on that.

What has happened is due to your original ZSphere configuration. The middle two fingers are connected to the same “face” of the main ZSphere. As a result, they skin to the same point, causing the mesh to poke through itself.

You can try the following:

:small_orange_diamond: Change Tool>Adaptive Skin>Ires to a different value.

:small_orange_diamond: Reposition ZSpheres so that they attach to different “faces”. This is covered in the ZSphere ZScript included with ZBrush.

:small_orange_diamond: Rebuild your model and give the main ZSphere a different value in the Transform>XRes/YRes/ZRes sliders. This changes the mesh density for that sphere, which has the effect of creating more “faces” for children to attach to.

Ok,
Understood. I will try later with adaptative skin Ires value change. I’m tired, time to sleep.

Thank you.

oops didnt see the crossover :frowning: … sorry.

No problem !

I didn’t manage to change the first sphere’s value, as changing the X/Y/ZRes value does not seem to change the “last drawn sphere”'s resolution but the “next to be drawn sphere”'s. As the default Res is “0” and the X/Y/ZRes not aviable before entering edit mode, i can’t make it work!

Is there a trick?

Thanks a lot ! (for mac ZBrush too!)

tokiop

The root ZSphere’s value cannot be changed. It does not have any geometry in and of itself, and so changing its value would be meaningless.

ok thanks!

tokiop…i haven’t tried it on a base sphere but…try the zscript XYZ which can be found in the scripts forum. It may or maynot solve your prob. In any event it is a must have in a zbrusher’s arsenal of useful things as well as many others found in that forum.

But when Iam trying to add new hi res ZSpheres to the root sphere, mesh where the root is placing has smaller resolution. So the root zsphere define geometry with smaller resolution (depending on value in mesh density slider).

:rolleyes:Yes i have this too… it’s nearly impossible to create 5 fingers on a spehere

That is because you need to think of zspheres as a cube, with 6 sides. This makes it impossible to have all 5 fingers as 5 branches out from one “palm-sphere”. You need to “cheat” by having more branches inside the palm. Something like this picture i made. sorry that it looks crappy, but it should get the point across.

Check out the “hand setup” link in my signature.

When building a figure, which part of the construction should be the root sphere? Chest? Pelvis? Other? When I make a figure where the pelvis is the root sphere, I get resolution discontinuity as shown in Alwert’s earlier post which gives undesireable hard edges to certain features and transitions. Should I change the resolution of the ‘hip/thigh’ zspheres to match the root?

~S.~

You can easily see the folds around the head there, and before I detail it I want to fix that. I can’t add resolution to the sphere, and intersection resolution doesn’t affect the folds. How should I fix this, since it would take awhile to recreate ALL that, and I doubt I could get it done as well (I usually can only make things once).

Also do comment on the mesh itself
