Merging SubTools?

After merging five SubTools to make one SubTool I’m having problems increasing the PolyCount. The count seems to increase but the processing is slow. The PolyCount slider doesn’t allow me to decrease or increase the count (it is still grayed out) after the increase.

I originally created the SubTools separately and made sure All SubTools were at a PolyCount of 2.

Can anyone please give me some idea as to what I am doing wrong.

Thanks
Mark

It seems that some portion of your object (after merge) is masked and you increase polygon not for whole object. Try enter ctrl+H to make mask visible or shift+ctrl+a to turn it off. Then increase divides (ctrl+d)

Thanks Velesius

I was expecting a slightly more complicated resolve, but the CTRL SHIFT A worked a treat.

I do remember using masking in the process of appending.

What is CTRL+SHIFT+A a shortcut for?

Thanks for the help, you’re a star.

Whilst we’re on the subject, would I be right in stating that any subtools appended to another subtool needs to have the same division of polycounts.

The reason I ask is because after creating a subtool that looks fine, increasing the polycount may round the edges to a point where the subtool becomes too soft.

First off … ctrl+shift+A will deselect any mask u have applied (i use it all the time to make sure that there is no mask applied).

Regarding the subtool issue … each subtool can have any subdiv you want. The “rounding” issue is something you can get rid of easily. Just turn of smoothing in the geometry tab  It’s that easy!

Perfectly answered. Easy when you know how.

Whilst we’re on the subject of Materials, I’ve recently created my own matcap material successfully. Would I be right in stating that you can’t create a Standard Material, but you can adjust the Modifiers to create a Material of your choice.

Thanks again dsoellbuster your feedback is much appreciated.

Sorry we weren’t on the subject of Materials. I’ve got ZBrush on the brain. So many different elements processing.

Thanks

Sorry i completely overlooked the material thingie  but you are right … when you create a material it will be always a matcap or an altered Standard Mat. At least as far as i know
