merging subtools problem

first of all, introduction:
i was practising with the human anatomy, my first goal was to to create a basic model to sculpt better and more accurate (anatomically i mean) character. i sculpted the model from scratch, no mannequins or what so i decided to start with the torso, arms, legs and head and then i would have done the hands and feets. this is what i have done, i sculpted quickly a body and then, as a new tool the hand, which i have mirrored and welded. the point is: i wanted to weld the hands to the body but merging the two tools with subtool master did not what i wanted. then i tried to hide and delete the unwanted parts and closing the holes but, as the first attempt, nothing gone as wanted. then i tried again with hide and delete, but this time merging the two sub tools as one and then closing the holes. results? same as the previous.
can i merge the vertices of the two tools in zbrush, i have to export into another program or i should start all over?

here’s a pair of pics to explain what i’m getting

Merging subtools will only group the subtools together, so they can be active at the same time as a single subtool. It will not change any geometry.

To create a single new continuous mesh, out of two existing meshes, you must use either Dynamesh:

…or the RemeshAll function (along with ProjectAll, probably):

thanks a lot, i’ll post images if i still have problems
