Merge subtools, maintain sub-d levels

I’m noticing that after merging subtools, their subdivision levels are altered. For instance, if I merge subtools at their lowest level, they lose higher subdivisions. If I merge from the highest level, some of the subtools do not maintain their lowest subdivision levels. Any tips for merging while maintaining sub-d’s? I suppose I could merge from the lowest, create new sub’s and project details from the original tools…

 Use Zremesher and get the mesh densities as close as possible beforehand.

Make sure every subtool has the same number of subdivision levels to start with, and then if you merge at the highest level it should maintain them.

Thanks Doug, that could work, except that I need the base topology to remain unchange.

Cyrid, that’s probably what it was. Unfortunately for me, this time around, I already went through the steps of merging, appending and projecting. Thanks for the tip!

Set Zremesher to keep mesh borders

Aaaah!

Thanks

If you divide a mesh till it wont divide anymore then you get the same effect with merged subtools who’s total sum of polys exceeds what your machine can handle. In the last case you get the top division and loose your lower levels.
