Memory question for ZAppLink

Hello,

I have 2GB RAM in my machine. But when I try to use ZAppLink to export a 4096x4096 texture to Photoshop I get a message from ZBrush telling me that I haven’t enough memory for this operation.

If I double up my RAM to 4GB, will this be enough?

Patrick

4GB won’t be much use if you have a 32bit system…

Also if you have 2GB of ram make sure your memory preference setting is not cranked up to the full but remains at 256

just some ideas, maybe it’ll help

Yes, it’s a 32bit system. But it can handle 4GB, no? My memory preference is set to 1500. Why should I set it back to 256?

-> I always though the only thing ZBrush can never have enough is memory

Your Compact Mem setting is correct for the amount of RAM that you have. You should make sure that your Undo settings are left at the default of 4. Max Polys Per Mesh should be no higher than 12, but a value of 6 is ideal if you’re working with ZAppLink.

4 GB of RAM on a 32-bit system would help when you’re using ZAppLink. 32-bit versions of Windows will not give more than 2 GB of RAM to any given application. But if you have 4 GB you would be able to set Compact Mem up to 2000, giving ZBrush the maximum amount of RAM under a 32-bit OS. The remaining 2 GB would be left over for Windows itself, Photoshop, and any other apps you’re running. This will make a difference when working with large files in ZBrush.

Ok, thank you aurick
