Memory (?) Issue crashing Zbrush

I’m starting over my portfolio from scratch, and am using for a particular model a Zsphere starting point. I successfully made a prototype in Zbrush 3.5, but decided to make a new model of similar design.

However, I am now using Zbrush 4, and an issue that has come up is that right after I make the Zsphere base skeleton, once I start painting I get an error message after a bit of Zsphere sculpting, and then Zbrush crashes.

The message says:

INTERNAL ERROR .\List.cpp Line:1206 Zbrush

Mismatch mem list size

E-mail pixologic.

Now, I am also sending them an e-mail, but I was wondering if anyone else had seen this error?
I tried expanding the mem limits to see if it helped, but so far it’s still caused crashes.

Any Help?

I had that error as well - only happens for me when I’m doing ZSketches. The good thing is that I found out that if you don’t click “Ok”, but “Cancel”, ZBrush seems to continue to work so you can save your tool and don’t loose your work.

I had this message to on a 10gb ram system but on a model with 19000000 poly’'s. If you have enough memory then in the preferences/mem you can higher the compact mem settings.

In your duplicate post you stated that you’ve maxed out your Mem settings. If that includes your Undo settings, then that is the problem. The Undo settings force ZBrush to always remember that many states of the model, no matter how badly it needs the resources for other things. That can become hundreds of millions of polygons!

They should only be increased above the default value of 4 if there is a specific short-term need. It is never recommended to save the setting at anything above 4.

Hi Aurick.

I only increased the compact mem settings like said in the link I posted. I did this after i had this out of memory error message yesterday. After increasing the compact mem the message didn t show up anymore.

I have 10 gb ram on a old dell Precision 670 intelXeon 3,2ghz workstation running on win7 x64 and i increased the compact mem to 4096. from what Ive read that should be ok I hope. I believe everything works a little smoother.

The rest of my memory prefs is still default.

I also understood that when a system hasn t enough ram and ZBrush runs out of free available memory you can use the compact now button.

please correct me if Im wrong.

I apologize for duplicates, I could not figure out why my posts weren’t showing up for hours, and I am trying to lose as little production time as possible.

As for the hitting cancel: the issue is it won’t let me. Every time I hit cancel, the message comes back up.

I have tried with multiple memory settings, in second attempts completely leaving undo/redo untouched at 4.

Please note, this is happening while working with Zspheres, not yet in the sculpting aspect of Zbrush. And I was able to work on a model that was even a little more complicated than the current one with no issues in 3.5. I understand the limits of polycount and memory, but I don’t understand how this is causing issues in the Zsphere department.

I’ve gotten the same error message as well when I use zsketch. I’ve emailed support and hope they work out that bug soon. I went back to 3.5 until then.
