Memory Error

My memory is setto 1600, undo 12, max polypermesh 14. And the highest res before I try to subdivide is close to 3 million polygons. When I try to subdivide I am getting this error in the image. It subdivides the model but I cannot do anything because it gives me constant memory error.

My computer specs
Intel quad core at 3.15 ghz
win xp 32bit
3.25 gb available ram

I’ll start with reducing ‘undo’ #. I read it bites a lot of extra RAM.

Thanks for the tip. But it did not resolve my problem. I thought that one could go up to 13-14 mil polygons with zbrush (without HD)

Here I found a couple good readings related to your issue…

Rybeck

Thanks rybeck. I have read some other post about memory issues. I feel like with my system and file I should eb able to go over 12 mil.:frowning:

Before I upgrade my main workstation to Core 2 (2.4Ghz and 4GB RAM), my previous system (AMD 64 x2 4400+ with 2GB RAM) barely handle 7.X mil mesh… which was non-rotatable.
Those max poly# setting is per mesh, which means you may use multiple meshes that may hold up pretty high polys themselves, in theory…
In reality, I never pushed a single mesh over 10 mil since Subtool mechanism release the pressure that one mesh need to hold tremendous amount of polys in pre-3.x ZB…

I’m just happy with the limit I can play around atm…

12-14 million polys on a 32-bit OS is really pushing it. Given your specs, you can increase your Compact Mem setting to 2000, which may help a little. As has been mentioned, it’s not a good idea to put the Undo settings above 4.

Ultimately, you will definitely get the best results by splitting your model up into multiple subtools. Even if you can manage to get that one extra subdivision level for your whole mesh, performance will suffer and you could risk mesh corruption.

Thanks I will try these new settings.
