memory cpu preferences in zbrush?

i just built my new pc this week. i was in the preferences in zbrush testing out to see if it was any faster and i saw some options in there and when i held control over them i got no information.

can anyone just explain to me if i have to do anything for the following quesitons?

my pc is vista 64 with 8 gb ram and a intel quadcore cpu.

do i have to tell zbrush that my pc has 8 gb of ram?

does zbrush automaticaly use all 4 procesors?

i’m new to this techy stuff so i hope someone can explain how this all works to me. thanks guys.

Hi,
As far as I am aware Zbrush can only access 4gb of ram even on a 64bit system. There are several threads on memory preferences in Zbrush, the following link has a useful post from Aurick:

Your machine should be able use all 4 cores if it requires them, the windows performance window should show cpu usage at any given time.

As long as you leave the multirender and multidraw options on the Preferences>Performance menu, ZBrush will use all four cores. It can actually use quite many more than that, and detects them automatically.

As for RAM, because you have a 64-bit OS you can set Preferences>Mem>Compact Mem to 4096 (which is the max setting). This tells ZBrush to use 4 GB of your RAM.

thanks guys, really appreciate it
