Meet Mr. Chaney

Chaney_001.jpg

This is my first post at ZBC.

I’m 14 yrs. old and made Mr. Chaney (after Lon Chaney) for the 8th grade 2009 Scholastic Art competition. Unfortunately I don’t think the judges understood the application used even though I entered him in the “Computer Art” category. They didn’t give out any awards at all for the category! Maybe in time that will change. I’d think that Photoshop / Zbrush and many others are here to stay and should be considered art forms.

Thanks for looking!

yes, many people don’t understand alot of digital forms of art. good to see you’re already working with the software at 14. i entered a competition once when i was 17 when i was first used Maya and they considered my flat shaded model an incomplete work.

As far as this piece, with so much high frequency detail, i think i’d choose a different shader for presentation. keep sculpting

Hey nice work and especially for a 14 year old.
At your age my main focus was picking my nose and playing playstation.

hahahahahaha, damn you right, me too, all day playing videogames and getting fat sitting all day in front of the tv, now, im sitting all day in front of the pc…, life’s change  ahahaha, and wow, that’s a really impressive image, i cant believe your only have 14 !!! keep it up you really have skills for this, the cg graphics is really an art, this is art, great job! sorry my english haha : (

Wow, 14 huh? I think it’s safe to say when the time college comes around, you’ll have it easy if you choose the path of a 3D artist. That gives you at least 4 years of practice before then. Anyways, the model is done really well, especially the texture. I’m sure you’re not done with it completely yet but perhaps the ear could use more detail since the rest of him contains so much.

And who needs judges anyways? Most of them are probably too old to appreciate modern art.
