Leave the field for ZIP-code blank; that one’s just for people in the US. Scratched my head over that one, as well, as my norwegian area code has never caused any problems when ordering stuff from “over there” or anywhere else…
Something to look into, perhaps, dear Gnomons?
Meats Meier:
Great tuts as always. I’m glad to hear you’re making the dvd available as downloadable chapters.
Aeneas: Thanks, I hadn’t checked out the new Z3 vids at 3D trainer, they’re great. I also didn’t know Meats was doing an intro to Z3 DVD, so I’ll probably be getting that when it comes out, that looks exactly like what I need.
i know gnomon teach friends 4 free!
i just saw you need 2 pay.
its a k price kinda cheap i think.
but anyways keep asking money!
i think there is nothing wrong with that!
I don’t look for errors, but reactions made in error will often draw my attention.
(There was an implied accusation in your post, and I thought I could lay it gently to rest.)
(It seems I don’t do gentle well.)
I wasn’t responding with an acid tipped insult. I was making a friendly joke, as friends do, among friends. A good-natured ribbing, as it were.
If I thought for a moment it would bring shame or anger, I wouldn’t have said anything.
Why would anyone?
Are the blind particularly atrocious in Wales?
In the U.S., if we miss something obvious, we say “I must have been blind.” It is a very casual comment – a mild hyperbole, overused to the point of cliche. There’s no undercurrent of self-hatred when we describe ourselves this way, and I don’t think there’s contempt for the recipient when it describes others. To the best of my knowledge, nobody gives much thought to its use. (Except possibly blind people, whom I imagine are justifiably insulted that we should exploit their condition so lightly in cultural reference.)
I hereby apologize, publically, for any slight you might have taken from my ill-advised comment. Rest assured, that was not my intention.
Rock on! That’s good news all around.
(I know there was international shipping drama with the Z2 DVDs back in the day. Online distribution solves a lot of problems for a lot of people, and it’s what many have been begging for this whole time.)
I just had to focus on making sure the DVD got out in time first. It will be available on the 20th (and then I can move on with my life )
It will free you by consuming the rest of us. There’s a certain poetry to that.
Alex is there any chance that the Full Gnomon titles will ever be available for download, as it costs at least half the cost of the DVD again in shipping plus a 7 day wait…
It’s not up on gnomon’s main site yet – just this coming soon page. I’m guessing we’ll see a catalog update on Wednesday, when the DVD is said to be released.
There may at some point be a 5% discount for CG Society members shopping through the CGProShop, but the CGProShop doesn’t seem to get new DVDs as Gnomon releases them, or at any time thereafter. So, that was hardly worth mentioning.
The top row has been used to advertise plugins and user meets and interviews and such. There’s a strong precedent for ZBrush related news to get linked there.
Seriously, guys. This isn’t SPAM. It’s a press release which happens to affect a lot of us. Would you rather we not find out about it?
When the top row advertizes Viagra, you’ll have every right to complain. But for now, we’re talking about some of this community’s best and brightest offering the benefit of their knowledge. At a price, I’ll grant you. But you can’t tell me this isn’t of interest to the users here. Not if you’ve read through the responses, anyway.
When does a press release become an advertisement? I don’t think anyone is suggesting this shouldn’t have been mentioned on ZBC. Other such announcements have been made in the past. Why not make it a ‘sticky’ thread to make sure everyone sees it? Just strikes me as innappropriate in what’s just been renamed the ‘gallery’. As far as I can see, it’s the first time there’s been any such post there. The plugins, usergroup meetings and so on, are free.
A press release becomes an advertisement the moment it is typed. Silly. Why else would you issue one? This doesn’t detract from its value as a press release, however. If it’s newsworthy, publishers run with it.
To be perfectly honest, the other anouncements in the top row have always bugged me. And admittedly, it didn’t say “Gallery” when those went up. But I’m more or less used to the idea that the top row represents threads Pixologic wants to call out now, whether for artistic merit or for valuable information. Which might be why this doesn’t feel out of place to me. As you say, it’s a matter of degrees.
Anyway, there is no better way to make sure we all see it than that top row. Stickies don’t get buried immediately like other posts, but I think you give us too much credit to think everyone actually looks at the thread titles. I know I only glance down there after scanning through all the recent thumbnails, and not always even then.
So, here’s the big question:
Would you be more comfortable with a clearly labeled banner ad? That would purify the gallery, but take up more real estate and probably add motion. And open the door for more general-audience advertising.
Given the choice, I’d rather have the occasional thumbnail than a constant banner. But, I think that’s what the protests in this thread are pushing towards.
Either way, I think it’s admirable how much advertising Pixologic has refrained from shoving down our throats for this long.
Alex is out of the country right now…so I hope I don’t step on any toes here…
We were surprised (and happy) about the top row for the Gnomonology thing, but it is true that the slots should be reserved for the killer artwork made with Zbrush…and probably should always remain that way.
I can guess why Pixologic put it up there - if they are getting half of the email questions as we are about when there is going to be training for Z3 available, then I can see why they would want to point people to it.
I request that this thread be moved to the community forum. Thanks Pixo!!
