Maya/ Vray not rendering Zbrush generated Displacement Correctly -* Lots of images

Hello everyone,

I’ve been trying to solve this as a side project for 4 weeks now. It is so silly but I can’t get over it and let it go. Please look at the resulting rendered image. You’ll notice a lot of artifacts. I’ve done so many methods to solve this issue to no avail.

I was thinking off work around but mainly, i’d like to never face this issue ever again by understanding what is causing this.

I just spent the last one hour or two documenting and testing step by step. Please go to the link and look at the images step by step. I know it is a little tedious but please do help. This is frustrating and it technically should be working fine, I really don’t get it.

So after 4 weeks of testing on and off while rushing work and then a 2+ hours to setup a detailed post. 22minutes later I solved the damned thing. I don’t know if I should cry or be happy.

Anyway, here is the result… I unchecked view dependent & edge length was set to 0.1. I think the main thing was view dependent but I am not entirely sure.

Could someone explain why this worked so i’d feel like I got a lesson in life out of this whole ordeal =) Thank you!
