Maya type - extruded type?

Type from Maya? Is there a way to bring extruded type from Maya? through gozBrush - type at all for that matter, from illustrator or Maya? I want to add some scales on some type and can’t find a way to bring type in?

For something to go between ZBrush and other apps it must be polygonal. I’m not a Maya user so don’t know, but are there any settings to make the type in Maya editable so that it’s polygons?
