Maya to Zbrush pipeline

Hey all,

Can someone recomend a dvd that shows me how to start in model in maya, bring into zbrush, and end in maya?? I would like to learn a really good workflow.

I have seen some online, but for older versions of Maya and Zbrush. I am currently using Maya 8.5 and Zbrush 3.1. I thought a couple looked good but wondered if the workflows would translate.

I am very confident in may modelling/ sculpting ability/ knowledge at this point. I am clueless how to get these two packages to work together

Specifically I need to answer these type of questions:

UV prep before importing into Zbrush: Is it necessary to generate maps before entering Zbrush??? (I thought I read that it wasnt necessary unless you planned on painting on them additionally in photoshop. Is this correct?)

How to work with multiple maps.

Is using multiple basemeshes an ok practice or would I want to convert all of my subtools to a single mesh before exporting fromZbrush.

Working with displacement maps in general

Working with normal maps in general.

I appreciate any and all advice. Thanks a lot folks!

Bumped, since I’m in a similar situation. I wish someone could answer that question.

I just noticed this thread to be older, did you, Kansuke, found a workable solution? Btw., I like your sculpts, very nice!

Hey ult,

I have learned a few things since then. If you have a specific question I may be able to help. Lemme know.

I have created a model in Maya 2010 and rigged it. I would like to import it into ZBrush 3.1 and create some textures for it then export it back into Maya. I have been able to import an OBJ into Zbrush from Maya and have been able to draw on it then save it as OBJ file and it looks good in Maya. My issues are that I can’t import the Materials they do not come thru. I also wanted to find out what is the easiest process to do all this. Is there a Maya 2010 Pipeline?
