Maya to Zbrush and my UVs Textures disapear ?

I have a SketchUp character I downloaded from the internet. It reads perfectly into Maya, all UV info is there and all associated textures are applied. So it all looks like it should. Now I want to take it into Zbrush and fix the typology.
I ran GoZ and the object goes into Zbrush no problem, the problem is the textures and probably the UV information appears to not be there any more.

Should I be able to take a Maya object with UV’s and textures into Zbrush and see all textures applied in Zbrush ?

If I can’t see this objects textures could someone explain what I may be doing wrong ?

Thanks in advance.

Can anyone answer this for me. Need to know so I can continue with my project.

GoZ between Maya and Zbrush is broken right now. It will randomly trash your objects UVs. Just do the old fashioned .obj export and import. It will work.

Thanks for replying.

I imported the .obj and still the UV’s didn’t come across, I was hoping that the .obj and corresponding texture file would load onto the image but unfortunately it didn’t.

I have uploaded the .obj and texture file to my dropbox if you could see if it works for you I would really appreciate it.

Your .obj is fine, your UV’s are fine.

Just like any 3D application ever created, when you import an .obj into zbrush it does not automatically import and assign a texture to your model, you have to do that manually yourself. Yes GoZ does this for you automatically, but you aren’t using GoZ.

After you have imported your obj into zbrush do the following to load your texture onto your obj

“Texture > Load >” load your texture.

Select your newly imported texture then, "Texture > Flip Vertically. "

Then under “Tool > Texture Map >” Load your newly imported and flipped texture.

You will then see your texture on your model in zbrush.

i’ve found the issues you guys are having… but i also ahve found that it’s perticular to the order in which you do things.//

hell… i’m goz-ing between maya 2013 AND Lightwave 11 simultaneously… and i’ve found out how to make it work properly… you just have to keep an eye on your GozProjects folder in your user/documents/public ( i think that’s the location) folder … that’s where it places your textures and inbetween files going between the programs.

you can tweak it so it works.

i wouldn’t say it’s broken… just not fool proof (nothing personal) … i wish it were fool proof for fools like me! :stuck_out_tongue:

i also wich you could specify the GoZProjects folder because i don’t want that on my C drive!

The problem is with UV’s not textures. Pixologic has confirmed that there is a bug with transferring UV’s with GoZ and Maya 2012.

They said that they have fixed the bug and plan to roll out an update soon.

I wish Pixologic would send email notifications to me when someone responds. I know I have it turned on but I never get the emails. Arrgh !!

The one part I was missing so I could read my Textures was to flip them, so thank you for pointing that out.
