Maya Batch Render with displacement Problem

Hey Guys,

Thanks in advance for any help. I’ve searched here already for the solution to my problem and could not find it. My problem is when rendering a batch animation out of maya/mental ray with a displacement map the render is just re-rendering the first frame over and over. So I end up with a six hundred frame still shot. I found a post up here that mentioned that they had this problem and it was a memory issue. The only reason that perplexes me is that my computer is a new machine with vista 64 bit and 8 gigs of ram. So i would think that should not be a problem unless I’m going about the process wrong. If anyone else has run into this problem and found a solution I would greatly appriciate some insight. Thanks again,

Tanner J.

Through trial and error, I’ve found that it’s not the displacement map causing the problem. Its the approx. editor. I simply mesh/smoothed my model and ran the displacement map over this smoothed geo and I got the results I was looking for. From reading through the forums I have found that Maya 2008 is using a new approx. subdivide script so I’m not sure if this is a bug from that. The other thing is I have eliminated my home computer from the equation because I also did a test render at work on a Mac G5 (2 gig Ram) and had the same results with only rendering the first frame multiple times.
