Hi guyz! I’ve been pushing myself to self-learn Normal/Displacement techniques using Zbrush and 3DS MAX.
Encountered many problems, serched alot here and there, heres where I am so far.
1) Low Poly Modeling, Export to .OBJ - Holes ine the head? Mouth interior? 2 Triangles?
Ok. I Modeled an head. I’m satisfied with its shape but I wanted to learn Normal/Displacement HighRes Mapping to increase detail of my work. I want to keep my scene low poly so i decided to learn to Normal Bump first.
So exlpoded the mesh using BOMB Space warp (Using thattutorial) to make sure its all quads, welded everything at 0.01, everything is fine.
I export to .OBJ format, Surprise! 2 Triangles… Wtf? How can i find those triangles? weren’t they suppose to merge together when i did that BOMB thing using 2 face min. setting? Anyways… If you can tell me how to find those triangles in 3dsmax your very welcome…
2) UNWRAP/UV Coordinates - Modeling to have nice UV’S, Perfect UV’s.
Before exporting to .OBJ, I first unwrapped my character’s Head using UNWRAP UVW. I decided to use UNWRAP UVW since its easier for me to texture in Photoshop later.
First of all, do these holes in the Eye/Mouth section causing problems?
Should i close them with polygons? Those holes (Generating Seams) looks like they created jerky stuff when generating Normal/Displacement maps. If you can answer that (are those holes a problem? Should we close/fill them?), thanx alot.
So I Unwrapped that mesh the best i could (I suck at Unwrapping).
YOu can see the interior of the mouths as a separated Element… Is that bad? Should i Weld the symmetrical pieces together?
Another thing i was wondering, SInce my Original UNWRAP UVW may not be well interpreted by ZBRUSH, can i use a separated UV for ZBRUSH’S Normal map ( the all messed up AUV TILE one) for NormalMap and a UNWRAP UV For diffuse?
Anyways, if you can give me tip on my Unwrap, here it is…

Notice how the average diffuse color gets darker as i add mor level…
I readed another thread where it says you must ad lights (i have 4 lights in my scene…) and maybe to flip normals (Tryed and… no… Its worse).
What i don’t understand is that as I add mor level the material itself in the material editor gets darker.
Well, thats alot of stuff, alot of problems and i hope you guyz will give alot of solutions!
