max to zbrush obj scale issue

hey everyone,

im having an issue with the scale of the obj file.

i sculpted a model in zbrush and retopologized, but there were a few fixes that were easier to see in max, so i imported the mesh as an obj into max, did a few tweaks, and reimported the obj back into zbrush.

when i import the obj back into zbrush, the new mesh is astronomically smaller then the sculpt mesh, making it very difficult for me to project for normal mapping within zbrush.

anyone got any ways to fix this? or know exactly how big the scale the models back up before exporting from max?

Try adding it as a subtool to the old mesh and seeing if it retains the size that way. If it does, just delete the old mesh.

I am not sure of the specifics of this issue, but When I export a model out of ZBrush, I go to the Export section for the tool, and make sure all the sizes/numbers there are the same as other subtools. For whatever reason, occasionally a subtool will have all those settings zeroed out, while there are specific numbers/scale/size settings in all my other subtools. WHen I set the zeroed out numbers to match my other subtools, the scale issue is resolved. In my case anyway…

Perhaps take your newly imported mini model, and set those export or import settings to what they were before you exported to make your changes in Max.

Definitely keep us posted.
