Materials won't hold on objects

Hey guys… strange issue popping up. After I import an object I assign a material to it. I do it the normal way. I select “M” only at 100% strength and then go to the color menu and “fill object”. The object is flooded with the material and it looks like I am good to go. However, once I import a texture for the object and apply it, the material doesn’t hold anymore.

I can tell it’s not holding because when I go to select a material for my next object it changes the material of the object that I had just assigned a texture to.

At this point I can only use one texture for all the objects that make up my model since whenever I assign a texture to an object it loses the connection with the underlying material setting. Am I doing something wrong here?

The live material preview you are seeing is being applied to the texture and not to the object. If you turn the texture off, you will see that the object still has the same material that you assigned to it, regardless of what material is selected.

You have to apply the material to the texture using the ‘Fill Mat’ button in Tool>Texture Map.

Thanks for the help. That did the trick!
